Just spoke to one of the owners, they are hoping to open this coming Monday if all goes well with inspections.

We had a pre-opening treat at Brewery and the Beast yesterday. This place will do well!

Just had the porchetta sandwich as well as the panzanella salad. I gather that the menu changes daily, including the soup and salad, but the porchetta is their signature item.

The porchetta was excellent. The panzanella salad kind of sucked.

Other menu items seem to be corned beef, lamb, roast beef, meatball, grilled cheese, and some vegetarian stuff I will never order.

The place was packed and lined out the door. Prices were reasonable ($8 or 9 for a sandwich). Portions were not huge, but sufficient for lunch.

Packed felt like an understatement when I walked by at 12:30.  I bet the ROAST in the Hudson folks would like even half those folks to come try their sandwiches.

On the bright side, it seemed to have pulled some of the crowd away from the Hanks BBQ.

Yeah just packed at lunch, but they move the line through very fast.

When it comes to competition there is also the Mint that opened up their "Mint for Lunch" space up above along Douglas. They too do paninis and grilled sandwiches.

Keep in mind though, sometimes complimentary businesses can be good.

M & B has taken an extended Christmas, has not been open since Christmas Eve I don't think.

Yeah it's ridiculous. I guess their employees don't need the cash. The don't reopen until Monday.

I can think of a few other places that close over Christmas and new years. Everyone gets their annual vacation time, or part of it, at some point. What's the difference? The sorts of f and b businesses that do this are busy year round.

The difference Matt is that I wanted a delicious sandwich consisting of perfectly baked Crust bread filled with perfectly roasted dead animal the other day and was very disappointed to see M&B closed!

Oh, then solution is then to never close for a break... there are lots of F&B businesses that do that too!

Some really classy places, like McDonald's for example.

I think they missed out. Lots of people who don't normally come downtown were out and about Xmas shopping and no doubt wanted to give the place a try.

That being said the Turducken sandwich that they featured for a day and which so many in Vancouver rave about was ...meh?

I'm not familiar with their business per se but for others, full is full. They are no busier in December than they are in October so there's no net difference. If you are planning to close at all, that is.

Must be nice.

And Brasserie. And some fancy bakeries, too.  Full is full!
