Stantec / Hilton Hotels, has announced their intentions to build a new 30 story Hilton Hotel at 10 Front street, in downtown Nanaimo.

A public presentation is being made on Tuesday May 13th, at the Vancouver Island conference centre.

A rezoning application has already been submitted to the city of Nanaimo.

If built, this tower will become Vancouver Islands Tallest.

So is this the same tower that was proposed in the other thread, the one by the Chinese tour group?

Surely Nanaimo couldn't sustain two towers, especially if the comments in the other thread about the existing hotel always having lots of vacancies are true.

This is a different tower than the convention centre Hotel, Im guessing the Hilton Hotel group had done their numbers on this.

these two hotels are focusing on the high end / conference market, which is presently lacking in the Nanaimo market.

Time will tell I guess...but based on current occupancy figures there doesn't seem to be a demand for hundreds of more hotel rooms in Nanaimo.

I have heard the Hilton suites might be sold as time shares

Nice! Thanks for sharing this with us.

Do you have a height figure in meters, perhaps?

I actually wasn't able to find a hotel room in downtown Nanaimo last year when I was there for work. However I believe a conference was in town at the same time.

Glad to see another city on the island helping to break this mentality that 20 stories is 'too tall.'

Do you know if that is from the Front St. side or the Georgia Park side? Also the number of floors on each side?

Is Insight still the developer?

Yes, it's the insight lot, and they are also partners in this project in some capacity.
From my understanding it's 35 stories on the water side, and 30 stories from the front street side of the tower

I find this very hard to take seriously, nor can I see that much demand for hotel rooms in Nanaimo.  The Coast Hotel has suffered from high vacancy for years.  How can a city of around 100,000 absorb this many hotel rooms?

Whats going on with the Chinese backed hotel, have they broken ground yet?
