Looks like Saanich could be getting the first government BC Cannabis Store in the CRD. On the council agenda tonight is an application for endorsement of a cannabis license in Uptown. Location map shows it would be two CRUs located next to Steve Nash Fitness. Staff report is here: https://www.saanich....20200525rsc.pdf

You’d think they were going to the moon.

First Nations owned Indigenous Bloom has opened their store on the Tseycum FN lands. No taxes.

I believe that they have their own growing facilities as well.

Exactly what I said would happen.

why does the government want to be involved in retailing in a centre like ours?

So are taxes not included in the pricing at Indigenous Bloom, or are taxes not charged? The wording is a little odd.

Know it all.

The website says that taxes are not charged. If it operates the same way as 'native smoke' shops do in other Provinces then technically they cannot sell to non-FN (without charging taxes) but they all do and the police / Government do nothing about it. In other Provinces the FN bands do not buy from Government distribution either.

The Province has amended the storefront requirements and now allows transparent windows. You may remember this came up as an issue when Victoria was reviewing the business license and BP for Farm in the former Aveda location.

Does this mean tobacco products will no longer have to be hidden behind curtains/in locked cabinets in retail outlets or will the tobacco/marijuana double standard still apply?

It means transparent windows are now allowed for storefronts of marijuana shops...

It means that pot sales are not making enough money for the Province so they want to help encourage more use!
