Cap Daily:
McKenzie Professional Centre replacement headed to hearing
At last week’s meeting, council also unanimously agreed to send the proposal for a six-storey, mixed-use development at 1555 McKenzie forward to public hearing. The project would include 384 rental units, commercial space on the ground floor, and underground parking. The development would replace the McKenzie Professional Centre and parkade ,which currently sit on the site.
Council will reconvene on Aug. 8 for a committee of the whole meeting and on Aug. 15 for a council meeting.

Is Fairway Market included in this plan? Or will they remain?

Fairway Market isn't part of this redevelopment, but I believe they have separately sold their property and I wouldn't be surprised to see a development proposal coming forward soon for the grocery site.

I wonder if the sushi place will relocate somewhere nearby. It's always been busy when I've been there.

It always seemed weird that they have two Fairways so close to each other.

Is the slightly taller building mid-block also part of this redev project? If so then Fairways will be a weird outlier.

The application proposes to rezone the area of the former McKenzie Professional Centre from general commercial to neighbourhood mixed-use and construct a six-storey rental apartment building with commercial space at ground level and underground parking.
The building itself would contain 372 apartments, 12 townhouses, one level of underground parking and almost 2,000 square metres of commercial space. It would include a mixture of unit types and sizes – from micro suites to three-bedroom units. Public plaza space with seating and an art feature is also proposed at the intersection of McKenzie Avenue and Shelbourne Street.
Doesn't look like 8 though.

What's happening here?
Farmer is currently building McCallum Lands in Langford with Starlight Developments, the region’s largest residential housing development with four, six-storey wood frame buildings containing 597 rental units.
Farmer also has upcoming projects with Nicola Wealth, including Spencer Block in downtown Victoria scheduled to start this summer, and McKenzie Centre in Saanich, scheduled to break ground in early 2024.

Wow the old neighborhood (from 1965-72) sure is changing; the parkade in the McK professsional building was the scene of my loudest ever hallowe'en bang....multiple sticks of ladyfinger firecrackers bundled together with a roll of hockey tape. Made a hell of sound too. Certainly a different landscape than the greenhouses, horse farms and groves of trees it was before 1968 when there was no mall, no professional center or in fact a McKenzie avenue, lol.
