The money is in TV, not just bums in seats.  I'd think TO and YVR are just fine for that.

I think Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal may be the only Canadian cities that games are played in.

I'm hoping a big name team plays in Vancouver, i'll go for sure, should be fun

people save for 4 years just to see their team play in the world cup, they make it a big party.

Edmonton is also a possibility.  Those kids get into events.

I'd be quite shocked if Edmonton didn't get a game. They were supporting soccer in this country with huge crowds @ Commonwealth before it became fashionable especially for TO to do so. As a side note after the Big Owe in Montreal, Edmonton also happens to have the largest seating capacity stadium in Canada so you have to think they are an automatic for at least a game.

Well said.  Edmonton deserves it.

Canadians are much more likely to spend $500 per ticket than Mexicans.

Dunno, lots of rich Mexicans plus big companies. $500 to see Germany-Brazil or Argentina-Italy? Yep. Those matches wont be played in Canada, more likely $500 to see Zambia vs Egypt.
My point is simply that we are unlikely to get any marquee matches.

They won't be played in Mexico either. Everything beyond the Quarters will be US only per the bid. So we already know where the marquee matchups will be played. Canada will however get a solid 8-0 Germany-Saudia Arabia kind of matchup at least. The new format forces that.

We'll see. We're only getting 10 games, same as Mexico. The big games, most knockout games, will be played in the US. We'll get a knockout game or two.

My guess is two, maybe three, of the 16 groups will be based in Canada in the round robin stage. That's six or nine games, right there. There will be a big team or two in all groups, so there will be marquee teams that play here. A lot of Canadians identify as English, Scottish and Irish, so I could see the group with England and Canada being based in Canada for the group stage, for example.

As VHF says, the big money is all in TV and advertising. For the last World Cup, advertisers spent some $600M. Make no mistake, Canadians will fork over big bucks for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
