Who do you think was the best local politician of 2006 or was the best politician of 2006 the BC Premier or our Prime Minister?

I am going for Alan Lowe though when you have a list like that it just goes to show the severe low we are at with leadership in this Country.
Anyways I think the mayor is finally after 7 years speaking his mind on real issues. Still perhaps not the lightning rod I would like to see but a vast improvement and certainly better than the rest of that list.
I will also give the Premier a point for his speech to the UBCM where he said that that taking people out of institutions was a mistake.

^Easy for Campbell to say, as it was the Socreds and NDP that closed the institutions down.
I have to give it to Lowe for doing the best with what he's given. He's not opinionated but another word for opinionated is "one-term".
Although I considered Harper, just for [url=http://www.warrenkinsella.com/images/harper1.jpg:9d557]this[/url:9d557].

^i hardly think Lowe being liberal qualifies him as "doing the best with what he's given". Aren't mayors supposed to lead rather than follow? I only know of two issues where he has done anything remotely resembling leading, the rest of the time he has been a politically-correct sycophant to every voter out there.

Lowe made a great statement after he was re-elected about proceeding with the revitalization of north downtown. For a moment it actually sounded like he had an ambitious vision, and to hell with the naysaysers.
But since then he's seemed to backtrack at every opportunity.

I don't have anything really against Lowe... but he's also not really done anything great. He's a politician.

Yeah, whats with that. After the election Lowe touted the north downtown revival as his next big dream and now he's treating proposals like they'll ruin the essence of the entire CRD. "Go put the highrises in Colwood," says he.
Know it all.

To digress a bit, i think we should announce Jeffamartin1970 as the new Vibrant Victoria typo king. To get 1 word wrong in an 8 word title is not unusual. To get 2 words wrong is abnormal, but to get 3 main words wrong in an 8 word title takes special talent! "Municapal, Provinical or Fedral Politician of the Year"? Well done Jeff! Yu shoold ghet into Municapal potilics!
Getting back to the topic, i voted on this thing so long ago, i don't even remember what i voted, but i'd just like to say cheers to Stephen Harper for if nothing else, reducing the GST not once, but twice. How many years were the Liberals in and ran surplus budgets with majority governments yet never even reduced the GST once. It's especially galling since they said they would eliminate the GST a long time ago. Kudo's Steve!
