OK I may have gotten that wrong. Maybe it was the Tasty Spot.
It was right across from Hamsterly Beach at Elk Lake Where that flat iron building is now.
It was a drive-in worthy of American Graffiti. Cars, girls, music, more girls, and hamburgers.
Priceless

The BA station was right across the road from Cunninghams on the same side of Pat Bay. Is it a Gulf station now?
Owned by the Neufeld family. They had a tow truck.
One night they had a call from the Saanich police to attend an accident by the Black Swan at Elk Lake. The dad arrived at the scene with the tow truck to haul away the cars only to find out that his son died in the accident in one of the cars.
He sold the gas station shortly thereafter.

60's Roadtrip
Pretend you were with me in the 60's with my newly acquired driver's licence.
Jump in. Don't bother to buckle up...there were no seat belts.
I am going to take you from the Town and Country Shopping centre (now Uptown before T&C it was the Saanich municipal yard) out to Sidney.
At 1:05 you go past the Black Swan convenience store at Elk Lake ( they had the best pinball machine there)
At 1:13 you go past the Tasty Spot at Hamsterly Beach (they had the best girls there)
At 1:16 you go past Cunninghams Shell gas station (they had gas there)
At 1:17 you go past Neufeld's BA gas station (more gas)

....the family would spend the entire year collecting and selling horse **** in bags in front of their house...
With this endeavour on their resume, it's a wonder none of the family went into politics.

More than 50 years later and much of the trip is still so familiar.

‘Unsightly eyesore’: James Bay residents hope developers will hit the gas on area’s only filling station
https://www.cheknews...operty-1210985/
James Bay wants a gas station now!” wrote McCready. “Enough it enough,” she adds, “Either build it to sell it to someone who will!”
There is currently no gas station in James Bay. The nearest stations are in surrounding neighbourhoods, including Fairfield and Fernwood, or across the Johnson Street bridge in Vic West. A gas station map is here.
“It’s really annoying. Even just to get oil, I ran out a couple of months ago, and I had to take a bus to Quadra (Street) to get some. You have to go out to Fairfield or Esquimalt,” McCready told CHEK News.
“James Bay is the only community in the City without a gas station, and this is NOT ACCEPTABLE! According to Google, the closest station is the Shell at 2.1 kms away in Vic West across the Johnson Street Bridge,” wrote Reimer.
The property’s landlord “resides in Hong Kong (and) carries out minimal, intermittent construction or small changes to avoid the Abandoned Properties Bylaw 85.058 restrictions, according to Reimer, who says, “His architect is no longer on the project,” also alleging, “some construction companies have not been paid.”

I think we all agree that 10W30 should be within walking distance.
Most James Bay residents pick up their motor oil on foot or by bike.

Doesn't the Thrify Foods, just a moment away from the old gas station, sell motor oil? I thought I saw some there.
Maybe she required specific oil?

Whatever happened to the Chevron project on the Pat Bay highway - former FasGas/Cunninghams lot?
Last update in the media was that work was supposed to start by the end of last year: Gas station complex with A&W along the Pat Bay Highway gets green light (victoriabuzz.com)
Should we get some neon signs and attach them to the fence?
ELK LAKE WANTS A&W NOW
