That is a big break for Singh.

and maybe for the liberals too.  they might like this.

It's almost as if the Libs did this on purpose to help Singh out. Trudeau would love to see Singh hang around for another year as NDP leader.

First thought that crossed my mind, too.

How so?

She was trailing in the polls but with Singh's blunders, there was a chance for a win. Though he is working hard for that seat.

I found her apology on the weak side of political correctness.

Singh being NDP leader might be best for the liberals in the fall.

I cannot believe someone could be that stupid to write something like that and not expect it to be caught and used against them. I have to think this was the game plan all along as JT is in a stronger position with Jagmeet as leader. Its like they told her to do this....lets watch and see what type of consulting position she gets in the next 6 months....

She mentioned that the guy "was of Indian descent" and that is now deemed racist? If one of my coworkers says that I am of Irish decent then I can get them fired?!

Actually, you are racist for asking.  Report for re-education at 0600 hours

The translation given by Global: "If we can increase the voting rate, as the only Chinese candidate in this riding, if I can garner 16,000 votes I will easily win the byelection, control the election race and make history! My opponent in this byelection is the NDP candidate Singh of Indian descent!" via https://globalnews.c...ge-controversy/

I didn’t see the message and I don’t read Chinese but the NP reported that the message pointed out that the candidate was the only one of Chinese descent and that Singh was of Indian descent.

Assuming Global's translation is accurate, you'd have to turn yourself into a pretzel in order to spin that comment as not racist. It's pretty obvious what she was getting at.

what if she simply urged the Chinese Canadian community to get out the vote? And reminded folks she is part of it.

On the other hand, if a politician points out that she is Chinese, or whatever, and her opponent is white then it’s actually brave and fierce and “literally everything”

This is what I see from it. Sure she didn't need to bring up that he's Indian but I don't see how that was racist.

Why didn't she bring up the thing that he was "male" that's even more damning?
