A stellar cast of central Canadian journalists, all of them eminently female, has been selected to moderate the first federal election leaders’ debate. They are three news anchors — Lisa LaFlamme, Rosemary Barton and Dawna Friesen — and two columnists, Susan Delacourt and Althia Raj.

There is no way of precisely knowing this, but I am confident that choosing all five exclusively from the XX chromosome class was a matter of some exultation, perhaps reaching to self-congratulation. Somewhere, in whatever closet these mysterious deliberations were conducted, surely at their conclusion there was a whoop of “You go girls!,” and surely, too, much high-fiving over the shards of another broken “glass ceiling.”

Here is my take on the SNC-L mess. Tell me if you disagree.

These giant Canadian corporations are dealing in a very competitive environment. Some of the countries they deal with are corrupt and in order for projects to run smoothly, wheels have to be greased. It seems SNC-L got in over their head and had to be rescued by the Feds.

Kicking Trudeau out is not the solution. This could have just as easily happened on the watch of a Conservative government. Maybe ten years from now Bombardier or some other too-big-to-fail corporation will find itself caught in a shady overseas mess and this time the Conservatives will have to find a way to quietly clean it up.

If we are truly outraged we must instead step back and re-examine the relationship between the government and Canada's big corporations and the risks they take and to what degree we want to take responsibility for their mistakes.

If this doesnt tell you theres a serious problem with the way SNC does business combined with the Liberal Party of Canada trying to prop them up then I dont know what to say to convince you that no company should be too big to fail and no company should be above the law

Canada’s Corrupt Corporations: World Bank’s Corrupt Companies Blacklist, Dominated By Canada

600 companies now listed as barred from doing business with the World Bank over corruption, 117 are Canadian, the most of any one country. And of those, 115 represent SNC-Lavalin

This is like the Canadian version of the Russian Oligarchs and the Mafiya. They are corrupt to the core and relied on their special relationships with retired Supreme Court Judges and senior members of the Laurentian Elite to sweep all the skeletons under the carpet. This company should be broken up and made an example of.

Oh and it has been asked in Committee several times for the LPC to produce the study that shows 9,000 or 10,000 jobs are at risk and there isnt a study, its a talking point

i disagree.

i do not care too much about snc.  even if it dissolves those jobs will be in demand.

the problem is that trudeau did this.

And the extent of Trudeau trying to avoid/cover-up/by-pass the law.

Assuming we believe any of the pollsters these days, it would be interesting having a Lib/NDP and Con/BQ coalitions fighting it out. That should really screw things up for at least a year or two.

I assume you posted this Twitter comment, to show how shallow the Trudeau haters are. They are so hung up on his socks, or his hair, or surfing or jogging. Each of the other world leaders was keen to meet with Prime Minister Trudeau, whatever socks he may have been sporting.

Don't be so sure.

i posted two different takes.   one from somebody i don't know and one from potus.  take your pick.

i'm not a trudeau hater.  i'm going to sleep very soundly in bed if trudeau wins in 8 weeks.  or scheer.  and the same on the first tuesday after the first monday in november if in 2020 trump wins or the democrat.

Comparison with the 41st Harper Parliament

Interesting, when you click on the 'promises kept' etc it takes you to a page and shows what those promises were.

Thanks Tommy, thats a good comparison tool

one analyst spoke of the need to compare not just promises, but types of promises...pointing out that trudeau's were "transformative" whereas Harper's were "transactional"...make of that what you will!

Trudeau entered the 2015 campaign having made a lot of "transformative" promises, he said, in part because the Liberals wrote their more ambitious pledges while they were a third-place party.

In contrast, Harper made a lot of "transactional" promises, which Petry described as those targeted at sub-populations like parents, for instance.

Colourful socks are part of Trudeau's brand. See Maclean's The year in Justin Trudeau's socks (2017), for instance.

This photo is featured on May's page on the Green Party's website. There is no description provided with the photo, or what the event was that May had attended. In the description there is no mention of Clinton or American politics at all.

Image file is "elizabeth and mum." Apparently the Clintons were family friends. Bill wrote a recommendation letter for Liz's law school application.
