And now there’s this:
- https://nationalpost...d-65ec764cd1bf/WE Charity offered Canadian summer camps up to $25,000 in grants as part of the $912-million federal student volunteer program it was awarded by the Liberal government, before cancelling the deal Friday, but only if they brought in no fewer than 75 volunteers over a few months, National Post has learned.
On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that WE Charity had pulled out of its agreement with the government to administer the Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) after a week of mounting controversies, including accusations of cronyism, due to close ties between the WE Charity organization and Trudeau and his family.
In short, to tap into a funding kickback of $25,000, WE wanted orgs to enlist 75 or more kids. Failing that, no kickback. Teachers who pushed 75 or more students towards WE funded programs were promised $12,000.

According to WE’s filings to the Canada Revenue Agency, the organization went from total fixed assets of $11.9 million in 2013 to $43.7 million in land and building holdings in Canada alone by the end of August 2019.
That’s a substantial amount of real estate for a group with total revenues last year of $65.8 million. It’s also quite the growth in holdings over seven years. I put some of the questions I could think of to WE’s public relations team:
— How did WE amass so much real estate?
— Are donors made aware that money they have pledged to WE has helped pay for real estate to be purchased?
— Can you provide me a detailed list of the real estate holdings of WE?
— How much real estate does WE own outside of Canada?
These are the kinds of basic questions that journalists put to governments and organizations every single day. Normally, a communications staff member will get back to you with an answer or seeking clarification.
I heard back from WE’s defamation lawyer, Howard Winkler.
“Brian, please be advised that we are counsel to WE Charity in relation to the matters which are the subject of your inquiry.

Because, you know, a story titled “Is the handshake over?” really ought to take precedence.

Federal website advertising hundreds of non-existent student-volunteer positions
The federal website advertising volunteer positions for students hoping to earn money for their educations through a $900-million government aid program contains hundreds of positions that do not actually exist.
Among the student-volunteer positions advertised as available on the I Want to Help website are 1,500 spots with YMCA Canada to help create online exercise regimes for kids and seniors in their communities.
Yet the YMCA says those positions were actually the brainchild of WE Charity, the organization originally tapped by the Liberal government to administer the Canada Student Services Grant, and that the YMCA never agreed to them.
….. those advertised positions are not actually unavailable.
… Thousands of other positions posted on the federal website involve the creation of online content or the mentoring other students on such topics as COVID-19’s impact on the environment, nutrition and cyberbullying.
Some of those are posted in huge batches, such as a call for 1,000 volunteers to be trained to hold one-to-one sessions with people on “the impact of COVID-19 on food security in your community.”
… Another seeks 1,250 volunteers to devise “social-media assets” such as captions, memes and videos, for local and regional awareness campaigns to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
None of those postings includes the name of a hosting organization: they’re listed as “supporting local non-profits in your community” rather than with a specific agency.
WE did indicate that it was behind many of them as it sought to meet the government’s requirement that in order to be eligible for the student grant, positions must be linked to the COVID-19 pandemic….

Fun to imagine the reaction if Harper had given $900m to a very political, conservative charity his family was involved in. That's what WE is. Very political activist charity
I mean, the media is covering this, but they are using kid gloves as usual
