Scheer is alleging a coverup following the Liberals’ decision to end the SNC investigation, and Singh agrees.

“Justin Trudeau has lawyered up. His Liberal MPs will shut down the Justice committee. The only possible conclusion Canadians can reach is that Trudeau is engaged in a massive coverup,” he said.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh agreed with Scheer. “That means no more testimony and no more answers that you deserve,” he said on Twitter.

In a interview with CTV on Sunday, Singh said that it would be an ‘obstruction’ to prevent Wilson-Raybould from returning to committee. He called the contradictory testimony from Butts, ‘incredulous’ and “simply unbelievable.”

Andrew Coyne: The federal budget is a testament to the pleasures of endless growth. Forget productivity, tax cuts or investment

As the point has been made many times, the Feds have done a great job of keeping the Federal debt to gdp ratio manageable... by downloading costs to the Provinces and munis. Add up all public costs and we have one of the worst debt/gdp ratios in the developed world.

some might just call that "decentralizing" and allowing provinces regions and cities to set their own priorities.  not always a bad thing.

While we here on the island continue to fork out buckets of money (taxes) to provide housing for homeless and affordable housing for the low income the Feds have just announced a new budget that includes:

"....The federal government named its new budget “Investing in the Middle Class,” and in many ways, the pre-election plan lives up to that billing. But one of the showcase perks in the budget looks more like “soothing the middle class” – and far from being a sound investment, it fans the country’s most serious economic brush fire.

The announced housing-affordability plan, which will have Crown agency Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. provide up to 10-per-cent funding of mortgages for first-time buyers, is a can’t-lose political proposition for a government that hangs its hat on supporting the middle class (and expects that support to be returned at the ballot box). For most Canadians, owning a home is the surest evidence that you have attained true middle-classness."....

".....The plan will increase demand for homes – that’s precisely what it’s designed to do. The government argues that because CMHC will contribute a bigger incentive for buyers of newly built homes, the plan will also spur increased supply. But while the demand will be essentially immediate, it takes much longer for homes to be built to catch up. It doesn’t take a PhD in economics to figure out that higher demand, in the absence of matching supply, will inflate prices. The help the government is offering new buyers could very quickly be wiped out by rising prices; in markets where prices have been declining, this could undermine the improving affordability that buyers would have seen otherwise. And this isn’t just for first-time buyers – all buyers will feel the impact."

yes it will have that effect (rising prices). but it’s hard to say when that stops or ends. but in general economic theory if you make something easier to buy you increase demand and therefore price. but theory also says that more people buying is less renting so you free up some rental supply and that lowers rents.

Well I think you made the case for most of the pundits. Nobody really knows what new impact this manipulation of the market with effect but it sounds good and should get the Liberals extra votes in the fall.

If the Feds funded their downloading then I would agree with you. They aren't and use the change to claim that we have one of the lowest federal debt/gdp ratios in the world while ignoring that we have one of the highest combined debt/gdp ratios in the world.

OSFI introduces measures that rapidly cool the market, which CMHC championed, now CMHC introduces measures to rapidly re-ignite the market.

So what’s step three?

She had already announced she wasn't running again. This move is due to Trudeau raising his voice with her.

From the CBC article. It's like a high school drama class (which as I wrote that makes a great deal of sense, lol):

In the House of Commons, Conservative House Leader Candice Bergen said the development is more evidence that Trudeau doesn't live up to his feminist statements.

"When he silences women, when he yells and screams at them, when he says that their experiences are just different perspectives, he is demeaning all women and showing what a fake feminist he is," she said.

Trudeau shot back that he would be "delighted" if Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer defended women's causes, including a woman's right to abortion.

"If the leader of the Opposition wants to be a better feminist than me, I wish him good luck. That would be a great thing," he said.

Scheer commented on Caesar-Chavannes quitting caucus as he left Parliament Hill.

"Clearly, the real Justin Trudeau's come out ... the way he's been treating people who have expressed their concerns to him, who have stood up to him," he said. "It's just another example of his lack of leadership."

Reading the G&M today it really looks like JWR and JP are bent on taking the party down and not just JT. They must figure that if the Liberals lose in the fall then JT will be forced to resign and then one of them can take his job. I think that is a really risky strategy and more likely to split the party.

the only reason they have not been booted from the party is their gender and ethnicity.

I think it is more likely that JT doesn’t want to be viewed as booting folks who raise concerns. I think that he will let this play out a while yet. His friends won’t let this go but it will be behind the scenes.
