Again I say SNC is a major issue in this country and should be broken up before it is allowed to flee the country.

And yet we have many other major Canadian companies, IBM, CGI, Irving and Seaspan as examples, who are taking hundreds of millions of dollars from federal contracts and consistently managing to screw them up and yet we are more concerned about an alleged bribe paid in Libya

Those however are not the issue at point and not the issue that has been plaguing the Canadian Government in controversy since 2001.

I am suggesting that they should be the issues that the Government is concerned about. What happens in Libya has nothing to do with me. $500M blown on a failed payroll project does.

Okay but that is also across two different governments.

This "alleged" bribe must be pretty big though. It has been a plague upon the Canadian house since 2001.

Talking with some Canadian friends here in London tonight and we came up with a plan in case any locals ask us about our political problems. We'll say, ignore 2019 Trudeau, how about good old 2017 Trudeau? It might not work.

The whole thing keeps being contradiction after contradiction.

Just last week SNC's president sat down with the Globe & stated they did not threaten jobs or to move out of the country.

He also indicated he felt that criminal prosecution was unjustified because the company has changed since then.

What a load of bull. Breaking the law needs to have appropriate consequences. If not, there's no incentive not to do it in the future. Not just by SNC but anyone.

Every company that's "too important" could just threaten to leave/shed jobs and then get a slap on the wrist once they've claimed that they've changed their ways. You can bet a lot more would take the risk and try not to get caught. And then if they do get caught - oh well, we'll fix it but please don't prosecute us fully because if not we'll move and Canadians will be out of work. Ugh.

From the article posted by sdwright.vic:

The presentation, which was delivered by mail to The Canadian Press anonymously and without a return address, also suggests the end of seven-figure donations and sponsorships for various community causes, hundreds of millions more in lost tax revenues, and the loss of spending on research positions at universities.

Great, so they threaten to cut back funding to the Liberal party. Seems obvious why Trudeau kept pressuring. What a slimeball move. By both SNC & Trudeau.

There's a big difference between repeatedly and willfully breaking anti corruption laws and screwing up. Very sad that people can't see that.

Odds are minuscule. All they're talking about is Brexit.

I would argue that repeated screw ups aren't just accidents. The Government funds these large companies for projects and because they know they will never be held accountable they assign the lowest priority and the least talented people to the projects while they focus their efforts on the clients who will complain and withhold payment.

What do you think happens when some Government DM complains to XYZ company that the project didn't deliver and they want their money back? Answer is that the CEO of XYZ company tells Trudeau that they will withhold donations, lay off staff, close offices, etc.

Argue based upon what evidence?

In general, government mega projects are very complicated with way too many stakeholders and many more functional requirements than the vast majority of private sector undertakings. On top of that, you have government politicking that plays a nasty role in dragging these things down (like requiring that our navy and coast guard ships be made in Canada, by vendors that are not very good at building ships).
