Ah, I see the new Ben Isitt thread, oh wait that one has been locked.
I think the new one was started because this one is titled (Inumbent) He is no longer an incumbent so maybe the title should be removed from the title

Do you think the international media coverage of his latest meltdown will cause our possible future mayor to temper his public comments so that they at least have a veneer of sanity?

Ummm, no. I think in Bens world, he is being pretty PC. If he had it his way, we’d have no property rights & be put to work on collective farms

Highly unlikely; hard core ideologue's - and make no mistake Isitt is just that - tend to be focused on "the Cause", pretty much to the exclusion of all else.
For me his answer to the VicNews question "what's your biggest pet peeve?" in 2016 told me everything I need to know about the man. The answer - naturally - was "capitalist exploitation of people and the planet". Of course......
My response is simply this: if its so bad here Ben, and last time I checked Canada is one of those evil exploitative Capitalist entities you find so offensive, then why do you stay here?
You see Ben unlike the ideology you profess to love, in this Capitalist society you actually have the freedom of choice here, and I'm sure lots of folks would be thrilled to see you exercise that particular choice by exiting post haste....
Indeed Ben why continue 'suffering' the indignity of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of thought, of movement and deed - not to mention the occasional odious poinsettia - when you also have the freedom to move to any of the five remaining Marxist-communist countries on the planet?
You'd no doubt feel much better about yourself, probably even sleep better at night, and who knows you might even look good in military green after they force you to serve your obligatory compulsory service in what is laughingly referred to by all of them as a "People's Army"......

Simple answer: Because he wants to change our country into a marxist communist country, starting with Victoria.
You see, how do you think those 5 other countries became Marxist Communist countries? Because it all started with one person just like Ben who got the ball rolling, then recruits followers, worked their way up, and eventually into national leadership where they can finally install the system. Will it ever happen in Canada....no. But we will eventually at some point in the future be ruled under a global dictatorship. How far off we are from that goal is hard to say. Hopefully long after I'm gone that's for sure.

M-P the question is rhetorical and intended to be tongue in cheek; I'm well aware of why he would never make that move, I was merely posing the question to him to illustrate whatever shortcomings Capitalism has - and they are many if we're being honest - they generally pale into insignificance from the perspective of the individual.
I was studying this stuff (political systems, international relations) 35 years ago in university, eventually got a graduate degree in it, and the self evident facts that were true then - Communism was a sick and dying ideology at the time, it all being but extinct now - are just as true today.
I respect Ben Isitt's right to believe in whatever philosophy floats his boat - we have that freedom under our political system, unlike the one he touts, ironically - what galls and gets most people is the fact as a CoV councilor his role is not to play "SJW-political theory-experimentation-extraordinaire": its to represent all of his constituents regardless of their personal beliefs or economic backgrounds and circumstances - which may well be and frequently are at odds with his own. The crux of the issue is that he is either incapable of, or unwilling, to do this.....

This is it precisely. Even Her Worseship occasionally pretends to examine alternate frames of reference, but not Comrade Ben. He's not just an ideologue, but a dangerous one, and far too many have fallen under his spell.

Has he ever had a job in the real world? or owned a business employing people? I wonder if he has ever had to make payroll or put his personal guarantee on to a loan apart from a mortgage...come to think of it, how does he qualify for a mortgage without a guarantor? Its not like you can qualify for much of a mortgage on the income of a city Councillor...

I agree he is dangerous, I think much more dangerous than most people realize. However, I hope he keeps this nonsense up - eventually he will manage to piss off everyone

My only hope for Benny Boy was that he'd go federal, but sadly it seems he'll be sticking around for as long as he keeps getting elected.
Sadly, I agree 100%.

I'm not a communist or a socialist (not even close!) but I think it's worth mentioning that socialism (social ownership of the means of production) does not necessarily mean a dictatorship political system.
The accusations ASE & others have made about Mr Isitt's ideology seem to assume that propounding communism/socialism equates to advocating for dictatorial political systems as well. This isn't necessarily the case, and Mr Isitt will dismiss your concerns swiftly if it appears you cannot see the distinction.
Yes of course, historically every attempt at communism has turned into an awfully evil and repressive dictatorial regime, oftentimes resulting in mass murders and genocides. But someone like Isitt will always hold a hope for a Democratic Socialist system that works.
Again, I don't buy into Isitt's utopian fantasy ideology (I think it would produce a dystopian nightmare), but let's at least understand what he's advocating for before we attack it.
Socialize the means of production / de-commodify housing & food, etc.
Maintain a democratic political system (not a dictatorship).
This is Isitt's ideology.
