Thanks @Mike K. for getting my official Vibrant Victoria campaign thread started!!I look forward to engaging with the VV community through this thread so that I might keep you posted on the Central Saanich (#csaan) campaign over the next month!

Here's how things have shaped up since the close of nominations yesterday along with their election status. The race for councillors will be especially exciting, yes I may be a tad biased, however it should be interesting due to the composition of the candidates which are a mix of incumbents, past-councillors and first-timers:

District of Central Saanich

Mayor
Jack Mar - Past Mayor/Councillor
David Shebib - New
Ryan Windsor - Current Councillor

Councillor
Alicia Cormier - Incumbent
Christopher Graham - Past Councillor
John Hannam - New
Carl Jensen - Incumbent
Zeb King - Incumbent
Baldev Lalli - New
Susan Mason - Past Councillor
William (Tex) Moodrey - New
Shawn Munro - New
Niall Paltiel - New
Bob Thompson - Past Councillor

Not that the VV community usually requires an invitation, but I would like to officially welcome any questions from your members on all things #csaan or other...

Thanks for your interest in my campaign, and to my fellow candidates, I wish them "Good Luck"!

Thank you Carl, welcome back. I have two questions for you.

1-How do you feel about the exposure and the interaction that you experienced on Vibrant Victoria during your last election campaign? Did you feel that your time spent here answering questions and sharing your platform ideas was worthwhile?

2- (This one more political) What are your views on your current bylaw enforcement process? Is it too slow and labourious? Is it fine the way it is? Is it fair to all parties? The "Woodwyn" situation is a delicate matter that will be watched by many to see how it may be resolved, so the "how" is what some find interesting.

@Sparky - Thanks for the questions and your interest in my thread!

1. I found the experience last election of connecting with your VV members very worthwhile as the discussions were engaging and informative. I like a forum such as this as a way for a candidate to connect with potential Electors because you can have a discussion that others have the ability to weigh in on or view as the discussion unfolds. I remember a great discussion last election with one of your members that went bacck and forth into the wee hours of the morning and their comment was that "this was better than an all-candidates forum". My belief as a candidate is that I need to make best efforts to connect with all of my constituents through whichever medium is important to them whether that be VV, FB, twitter, website, brochures, door-knocking, etc. I tried to spend as much time as possible on each as I realize that each medium will have its dedicated followers.

2. My experiences with the bylaw process are twofold, first that it is exactly that, a "process" that can take time to fulfill its steps; and second, that every example is different, and as such I could not make a blanket statement that it is too slow or too fast. How "labourious" the process may seem can easily be justified by the complexities of a particular case. I do feel the process is "fair" in terms of giving both "parties" an opportunity to work together towards a solution. I am sorry but I cannot go into details on any particular bylaw enforcement case as they are all handled "in camera".

Thanks for the questions!

I wanted to thank the residents of Central Saanich who attended our first All Candidates Meeting last night.  All candidates for Mayor and Council were given the opportunity for a 3 min introduction, we all responded to three questions and then were allowed to give 2 min of closing remarks.

The three questions were on the following topics:

  • The District's potential acquisition of Maber Flats
  • Derelict vessels in Saanich Inlet
  • The District's lack of use of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund through the CRD

Next up on the Central Saanich municipal election agenda is our second and final All Candidates Forum which will be on Tuesday night at 7 pm at the Tsawout gymasium.  This forum will be sponsored by the Peninsula Chamber of Commere and the Peninsula News Review.

Last night was the 2nd and final All Candidates Forum for Central Saanich.  Thanks to the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Peninsula News for sponsoring the event held at the Tsawout gym.  The turnout was great, I would estimate 200+, which was very good for another stormy evening!  Tight timelines allowed us to get through 11 questions with almost all going to all candidates.  Here were the topics covered and condensed versions of questions:

  1. Do you support purchase of Maber Flats?
  2. Would you support funding to CRD Arts Council?
  3. Do you support Woodwyn Farms?
  4. Should the farmland tax mill rate be increased in CS?
  5. Should CS consider increased bylaw enforcement or combined police services?
  6. What is issue with Affordable Housing? How an it be fixed?
  7. Support of CS composting? (Mayoral Candidates only)
  8. Did you support CS decision to remove its totem pole from Muni Hall? (Incumbent Candidates only)
  9. Will you advocate for regional authority to manage emergency response? (Mayoral Candidates only)
  10. Thoughts on recycling yard waster/composting?
  11. Why do we still have a Truck Route running past Keating Elementary?

Thanks to all in attendance!
