Downtown condo development nears sales launch as crews begin excavation
http://victoria.citi...gin-excavation/
Downtown Victoria’s newest condo development is underway as crews start site excavation at Johnson and Vancouver streets.
Dubbed 989, the project is comprised of two highrise towers of 17 and 15-storeys, a six-storey podium between them and ground floor retail space fronting onto Johnson and Vancouver streets.
Developer Dan Cox of Victoria-based Cox Developments, currently building the 1075 Pandora rental apartments in the 1000-block of Pandora Avenue, says a six month excavation schedule is anticipated with two years budgeted for actual construction.
“We’re in the ground now and expect to start construction by the spring of next year. In approximately two-and-a-half years residents will start moving in,” Cox said. [Full article]

Best rendering yet. I notice that even after 989 is completed it appears as though the green mesh will still be draped on the side of The Wave.

Good timing on the pre-sale launch. Essentially zero competition.

how close will it be to legato?
You can see it here:
Now it looks odd with Atlas orphaned. And with no parking.

Nice overlay....hopefully much like Promontory and the other newer towers going up on Songhees which are slowly masking the awful architecture of the earlier (Songhees) buildings circa 1980's, "989" and hopefully a few more towers in years to come will have the same effect "hiding" that other monstrosity in this view, namely View Towers......

The west tower should have been three stories shorter. It looks as if units on the 15th floor of the Manhattan could almost reach out and touch it. I know, the distance is actually greater than that, but still, Victoria doesn't need to be doing things in this manner.
So how come Victoria seems to be going backwards re: glass coverage? Corazon and the Wave and the Falls have more than these newer buildings.

Person: I live on a 15th floor corner apartment in downtown Victoria.
Other Person: Wow, you must have a great view.
Person: Are you kidding? I'm looking at a wall.

This development looks good.
I echo those that say it would look better with more height variation between the two 'towers'.
The proximity with which buildings are being constructed is absurd.

The lower floors look sharp.

Browse this forum for all the two-tower proposals and you will note the yo-yo height as they wend their way through the approval process. tall/short, short/tall, medium/medium, really tall/really short and tallish/shortish, up and down it goes until several years pass and the final result is always the most inappropriate compromise design that everyone dislikes evenly.

I lay this firmly at the feet of certain height-phobic residents & CoV councillors.

Some people just think everything should line up. But variety is the spice of life.

Do they still embalm deceased bodies with spices, and how long is the lineup?
