I notice blasting mats are present on this site, but considering the current stage of construction at Legato, has any blasting taken place at 989 yet?

Thye did one small one. this week has been focused on drilling

I just walked past this site and noticed what appear to be piles being sunk into the eastern side of the lot. Can someone with more engineering knowledge than I have please explain why this is being done in an area that I presume will be fully excavated multiple meters deep? Thanks in advance.

Be prepared for additional shaking - there appear to be quite a few more going in.

Yeah... my nerves are going to wrecked.

You'll be fine. We had 9 months of shaking at 1515 Blanshard during the blasting for 750 Pandora. You get used to it.

Still hoping for an explanation of pile driving ahead of excavation...

Oh that's interesting - are those Legato's exterior parkade wall forms?  It sure looks like it since we're seeing the backside.  That would mean the 989 Johnson project has completely removed Legato's retaining wall, with its encroaching steel anchor rods, since it is no longer needed.

I assume you are referring to this:

It certainly looks like all of Legato's pre-form stabilization is now gone.

Right.  It could also be that those wooden forms are in fact a section of the exterior parkade wall for the 989.  Either way Legato's dirt wall stabilization is gone.  Sure wish these pics were hosted somewhere that we could zoom in and take a closer look.

....989 Johnson is already seriously excavating and they still have not announced a date for pre-sales.

Is the sales office in the old McCall's building not open yet?

ps: still hoping someone can explain the purpose of driving piles on this site where presumably excavation for underground parking will be taking place.

Probably looking for bedrock as it might be part of the former swamp at Vancouver and View where piles are going in.

the piles are driven 60 ft down to bedrock. A large drill will excavate the material from within the piles and then drill into the bedrock a few metres.. the piles with then be filled with concrete. the surrounding area with then be excavated and this area will not cave into the rest of the excavation when it is dug deeper.

Same process for the former swamp under the Mayfair site.

The drill that will be used is currently at the Hillside Blanchard location on that school field looks like a crane with a big auger hanging from it

They already have an HR260 there on the Mayfair thread.

It will be open for previews later this fall but it won't fully open until January.

The drill is onsite auguring out the piles now. It was brought over from Hillside/Blanshard
