Someone collapsed at the finish line yesterday. Heart stopped working for a moment, reportedly. Those are the only details I have.

If you've ever watched from the finish line, you'd know this is very common. People giving it their all at the end just to collapse face first into the ground.

That location was always empty any time I drove by, which is frequently since I'm coming from Selkirk and work downtown.

After our (Fitness World) gym moved to Uptown 3 years ago it seems like it kicked butt and took no prisoners: a few gyms have closed down since while FW membership is continuously trending way up. I believe in the first 2 months alone after the move the operation signed up over 1200 new members. No big surprise really given the central location, accessible to many, very large and bright space - they leased an additional 5000 s/f within a few months of moving to the new location, with top notch equipment.

I don't see this as about how busy the gym was. It was profitable and making money. Sun Life Assurance is what killed it. I think it's going to be proven as a big mistake.

I think the "?" is in reference to the question "What does SunLife A have to do" with the demise of GL fitness....

/\.....interesting: if GL is in fact doing $ well I wonder why SunLife would play hard ball? You can certainly do far worse than having a nation wide chain of health centers as a tenant. Will be interesting to see what entity fills that space...

SunLife paid a huge sum for that building. I would imagine that their intention is to push lease rates way up.

Really?! And here I thought what I posted somehow was confusing.

Oh well?! It's a big oh well in my books. Not just the jobs lost, but how it will affect surrounding businesses and the plaza across.
It looks like a real bully move by Sun Life and I'd like to know more about what makes them tick.
For the increase they wanted, I seriously question who they have at the table. If anyone.
I wouldn't shed a tear if that space sat vacant for a year. Lol

Context. I totally get it. I assumed after this thread being dead for two years the new link was a clue.
There really is a bad habit of just reading headlines.

When was this? Could they potentially push themselves into vacancies instead?

mea culpa: I didn't read the link here because I read it earlier elsewhere but it was in fact_very early, I hadn't had my morning tea, and didn't make the connection between GL shuttering the doors and the breakdown of the leasing discussions. A likely story and I'm sticking with it....
