That's exactly what it was. Automatic fire would have been much faster.

I dont really think some chairs piled in front of the door would doo much but you can get the sense of what they must have been feeling at the moment must have been un-nerving

Yes the situation remains quite confusing as initial reports for the gunman indicated he had shotgun but eyewitnesses from the nearby construction site described it as a "long barrelled rifle". Ironically it appears that the gunman may have been killed not by an elite RCMP, Ottawa Police SWAT or Army sniper team but by of all people the Sergeant at Arms of Parliament who if he is lucky probably packs a 40 year old .38 revolver. All quite surreal....

If they had to get out of there quick that MP in the wheel chair would have a hard time escaping with the exit blocked like that

There is a closeup photo of the gunman taken by citiizens as he shot the soldier,

The cops took the citizens and their camera away and raced them off to the cop shop

MP Jason Kenney sends condolences to soldiers family  and says Canada will not be intimidated or terrorized ...what the hell does that mean.

Why was the Public not informed of this

This was also the day that Malala Yousafzai was going to be given honourary citizenship. Nobody on tv seems to have thought of that yet, they're only talking about our operations in Syria & whatnot.

& I thought it was more of a ceremonial position. I guess not!

It'll be interesting to hear what Ottawa knew, for sure.

Is it??

Canada was threatened directly a couple weeks back and now it is happening. How can that be utter BS. Its happening now and this may only be the beginning.Welcome to the new Canada.

The Canadian Flag is worn by travellers and even Americans on their suitcases and bags when travelling internationally because we were not targeted will that change now??

Claiming Harper is responsible.....and this...."its citizens now need to worry about getting slaughtered in their own towns"

Classic fear mongering and finger pointing before we have the facts....yes its BS....

Ottawa police now saying that there was no shooting at Rideau Centre and suggesting that there may have only been one shooting who shot the soldier at the memorial and then carjacked a vehicle to the Parliament buildings.

Visitors to the legislature are being restricted to scheduled tours today, and extra measures are in place for this afternoon's Question Period.

Public galleries of the legislature chamber will be closed for today's sitting, said Craig James, clerk of the B.C. legislature. Only scheduled visits, such as a group of elementary school students admitted this morning, will be permitted inside the building.

James said legislature staff received a heightened risk alert this week, and a small number of MLAs were made aware of it. But there was no specific threat against the B.C. legislature.

CBC is reporting live from Oak Bay Ave. discussing activities at CFB Esquimalt.

Weird choice for a location, maybe they were working on another story?
