Well well well, what do you know.  I spotted a picnic yesterday at Clover Point Dallas Road.

Ok, sort of.  My walk last night took me along Dallas from Cook St to the east.  Up in the parking area a van was parked parallel to the pathway, side door open and a couple people sitting in it having something to eat.  It was a very calm night and as I walked closer to the fence to take in the sound of the water lapping at the pebble beach, I turned to look at the van parked up on the road and thought I bet they'd have a much better experience if they were parked on the Clover Point loop where they could better see and hear the water.

I guess parking up on the road will have to do from now on.

It was a still night.  Dare I say even slightly warm as I took my jacket off to cool down a bit.  A couple of joggers ran by up closer to the road and two others walked past.  Clover Point is going to be inundated with pedestrians playing hopscotch at night.

I see there is quite the promenade being constructed east of Clover Point.

As a pedestrian who visits Dallas Road and Clover point dozens of times per year (but picnics on the beach) I can tell you that they are just rebuilding the current one - now removed. Which was in pretty good shape other than a few cracks, so a bit surprised to see this working being done unless erosion caused by the waves was making it more unstable and unsafe than it might appear.

Couple pics I took from last weekend.

I believe the heavy machinery, or some of it, entered and exited via that promenade to Dallas Rd. Perhaps they took it out to allow for the machinery to get in/out? Or something similar? Or maybe plans to improve what was there before?

I think part of it was opened up for the big pipe they ran along there.  Most of my walks along there during that portion of the construction have been at night so I never really got a good look at it.

Yes it was opened up to upgrade pumps on the Trent main sewer line in conjunction with the wasterwater project. The detailed CRD construction updates in relation to this portion of the project are found here and here

On my walk today I stopped in at Picnic Point.  5:00PM on a gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon.  Gentle breeze, nothing to knock your bottle over.

Success?

Oh goodie, more of that ugly split-rail fence that the city mistakenly bought too much of.

When I'm checking out primo picnic places, windswept barren concrete is always top of list.

I was led to believe this would be a paradise of cyclists free from being threatened by car-huggers, merry hippies, children, hackeysackers, picnickers and millennials getting really excited about food trucks.

Where is the ping pong table?

They tried a game; last I heard the ping pong ball was last seen in the airspace just outside Sequim.

Where is the ping pong table?

All the balls kept getting lost into the sea and stuck in sea turtles.
