Isn't that amazing! When the group to who the alleged racism comments are directed to is ignored.

I saw an article where former hockey player Jordan Tootoo said he likes the name and his own dad calls himself an Eskimo.

The new owner of the CFL's B.C. Lions knows he has work to do.

Amar Doman has been a fan of the CFL club since he was 10 years old, and has watched its popularity fade throughout the community. Now the entrepreneur believes he has what it takes to reinvigorate not just the Lions but the league as a whole.

"I like to rebuild things," Doman told reporters Wednesday after it was announced he had purchased the team from the estate of previous owner David Braley.

"I think this needs a rebuild, a community touch. And the CFL, I believe, needs a bit of a reboot and I think I'm the guy to do it. I think I can pull the community together and also get the community and the team more involved locally."

The Victoria-born businessman is the founder and sole shareholder of the Futura Corporation, an asset management firm. He's also helmed Doman Building Materials and Tree Island Steel.

Geez is this game even a "thing" anymore in the mind's of Canadian sports fans?

Discovered by accident idly surfing TSN this morning that the Grey Cup is actually today; I'm old enough to recall when even your parent's would invite friends and neighbors over for munchies and beers to watch the big game but over the years the CFL seems to be sliding further and further away from our consciousness. Beyond folks of a certain age, or those living on the prairies, would Canadians generally even notice if the CFL just disappeared? Or care?

Even the self proclaimed center of the universe in Toronto the home of our "national" sports network, TSN, barely mentioned it this week. They're far more engrossed in whatever the Raptors - who suck this year - are up to, or "big" US college football games between perennial powers William and Mary and Temple, lol.

It's sold out, so maybe it's something.  No seats under $139.

Well the host city also happens to be the home team (Hamilton) so the league would really have problems if they couldn't sell out their own stadium. And of course since Winnipeg is the other team playing its likely that lots of folks made the trek to southern Ontario from literally next door.

Still outside of the host city there is little to no buzz about the game, or the league, as in the past.

Toronto's greatest wet dream of course is getting an NFL franchise since the city is - you know - "big league", yawn. Won't happen anytime soon and likely not in this lifetime but they can dream one supposes. Which of course would kill the Argonauts and very likely the CFL, one reason why the NFL will be very reluctant to fan that flame.

The CFL's biggest issue IMO is the perception right or wrong that its 'bush league' and little more than a training ground for any real talent that comes along destined for higher things south of the border, or perhaps its the option of last resort for faded, aging ex-NFL'ers.

That perception probably isn't countered by the image of many CFL stadiums including the one in Hamilton hosting the league championship as being small, outdated, sub-par and minor league: I looked on Wiki and I see that Tim Horton Field in Hamilton barely seats 23,000 fans; there are several high school stadiums throughout the US that are almost that big....

What we lack in football enthusiasm we make up for in curling though.

Can always tell when the grey cup is over by the flurry of takeout burgers and wings.
