You must have negotiated free warranty service when you bought then. I had to pay for everything with mine. The only things that were free was if anything broke when it shouldn't have.

Some vehicles come with free service for the first 3-5 years. Usually higher end type cars. The BMW I used to have had a little screen come up telling you when your next service was required and this changed based on vehicle use. The dealership couldn't do any maintenance until the time was up. I got a let a couple of times because I brought the car in so infrequently I just got service once a year. The car I have now gets free service but it is just based on time or miles, so I take it in every 6 months.

Ok, so let's clear this up (with what I understand).

New cars come with warranties - if any OEM part breaks and you want the manufacturer to pay for it under the warranty, it must be returned to the dealership for warranty service.

Routine maintenance required to ensure your warranty isn't voided due to neglect (oil changes, etc...) can be done by any licenced mechanic and the owner should maintain detailed records and purchase receipts.  Heck, you can do your own oil changes providing you document it and keep receipts.

Where it gets confusing is independent shops saying "we do warranty work".  No, you don't.  You do work required to maintain the warranty, such as oil changes.  You're not able to order manufacturer parts (at no cost for the warranty) and bill the manufacturer for labour.

Extended or 3rd party warranties may let you take the car to mechanics of your choosing for repair under their warranty.

It's becoming common these days for manufacturers and dealerships to offer free service for xx,xxx km or years.

That is about it. However independent shops can do warranty work if they get authorization from the manufacturer. This happens sometimes in rural areas where there may not be a dealership that is available. There used to be a problem with some makes trying to get warranty work done at a US dealership with a Canadian vehicle but that is mostly gone now.

I can't remember if I mentioned the result of the auction of Eric Charman's 2001 Rolls Royce Silver Seraph at Lunds Auction this spring. The estimate was $40-50,000 and it sold for $32,000. Maintenance records were provided but no test drives allowed.

Seems as it sold well under estimate I wonder if the owner intends to keep it or flip it for a profit.

Cars like that need to undergo a major inspection. I’m somewhat shocked it sold for $32k, pretty much sight unseen (well, you can look, but can’t “touch”).

The fact it was owned by a wealthy, well-known and respected local man would work in the buyer's favour. I doubt Charman would cheap out on maintenance or keep a lemon. I'm sure the only issue was that it had been parked for a few months after Charman's death and the auction house mentioned in their catalog the old fuel should be flushed.

Yeah…

There we go. Old fuel in a highly complex vehicle can spell serious trouble. What else is not done? British cars are notorious for complexity and their components can fail when sitting idle for many months. This thing is 20 years old and spent its days in a moist west coast climate. The auction house should have provided a comprehensive assessment report from a reputable mechanic, is what I’m saying. Had they done so I would have be bidding, too. They instead sold themselves short by $20k.

At auction a 1999 Sereph just sold in Kent for $40,500 USD, or $50,000 CAD, plus fees: https://bringatraile...ilver-seraph-9/

The executor of the will either didn’t care, didn’t know or didn’t want to bother.

The car should have been serviced, appraised and shipped to Barrett Jackson.

Agreed. Whoever the executor was, I’d like to know. Collector vehicles like this shouldn’t be thrown at an auction house that specializes in furniture and trinkets, and the buyer told to flush the old fuel. You kiddin’ me?

I’m about to have a cargo trailer for sale. Cargo Mate blazer 16’ tandem. Was $6300 new almost 11 years ago, it’s possible this thing has appreciated in price based on some quick searches! It’s been stationary, no doubt needs new rubber but everything else is in good working order on first look. Couple cosmetic issues but overall in great condition, clean and dry.

Any thoughts on possible resale value?

I hope so and no. It was bought new, 2012, then parked. Hasn’t moved since.

It’s being towed in an hour so we’ll see how it all moves.

The wheel bearings might not appreciate that kind of inactivity.

big demand for those.

bot one in Ontario in 2015, 17' dual axel, ramp door, bar locks, side door, lighting cheaper there, and dragged it here. Sold it for $500 more than I paid, one year later to a guy who drove here from Port Hardy to get it.

I'd list it based on the higher end of what you see priced on Van Isle. Few avail.
