I'd forgotten that this was another condo/not-a-condo project.

They have by email to the people that signed up to purchase...way back when you could sign up if you were interested in purchasing.

Now you sign up if you are interested in renting. No prices.

Now you sign up if you are interested in renting. No prices.

With funding from the federal Rental Construction Financing Initiative (RCFi) The Cook Street Village Project at 200 Cook St. would now consist of 47 rental units, of which 21 would be affordable units and five fully accessible units. The 21 units would be priced at 30 per cent below the median household income of the area, while the remaining units would be offered at 10 per cent below market value.

Since the project has taken shape many people have expressed interest in the units, especially if it comes at an affordable rate, but many have also received a shock at the prices.

Chris Stiebel and his partner were just two of the people to feel this way when they received communications back from Urban Core Ventures about rental options. The quote they received was for the 10 per cent below prices.

A 388 sq. ft. studio would start at $1,600, while a 1243 sq. ft. three-bedroom unit would start at $3,850.

I think the people that calculate the percentage off market rate are the same people that calculate the 70% rate at the Oriental carpet store.

Hey, I was just in one of those shops today in the Medina in Fez. Carpet was 6500 euro, had him down to 2100 before I had to go.

Starting the haggling process implies a desire to purchase. No fair driving him down that much just to leave him with blue balls.

TC and Black Press reporters: this is what we call here an off-topic post.

"Affordable" a matter of perception for downtown Victoria development

In this case the "downtown" part would also be a matter of perception, since we're talking about a building in Cook Street village.

Well, when you're writing from the mainland everything south of Duncan is downtown.

But I hadn't finished the haggling process, but the tour was leaving.

I don't care about his blue balls, he had another sucker er, customer in the fold within seconds.

A 388 sq. ft. studio would start at $1,600, while a 1243 sq. ft. three-bedroom unit would start at $3,850.

https://www.vicnews....ia-development/

New sidewalks poured a few weeks ago, and finishing work continuing. They were taking down the wood and orange plastic netting around the boulevard trees yesterday.

This 'affordable'/not-so-affordable new rental building that was aiming for October occupancy doesn't seem to be occupied just yet. No window treatments or furniture spotted, at least from what I could see from ground level. Certainly the sides on Cook and Oliphant are not ready as entry points, but perhaps from the backside of the property there is a safe entry for residents, assuming their units are complete.

I can't remember, have there been any announcements re: the commercial tenants? I think some of those ground-floor units are live-work ones.
