Under certain conditions, should the 13 Municipalities that comprise Greater Victoria consider contributing to the cost of the Blue Bridge replacement?  If so, what should those conditions be?  Please be even tempered in your response as this is a discussion group...not a "Lynch Mob".

I think it's a bit late for that.

Living in Oak Bay and now in Saanich, I never have a need to go over the Johnson Street Bridge, but I do use the Bay Street Bridge on occasion, and since that bridge needs some refurbishment done to it, perhaps you can ask other municipalities to cough up some money for that one. But why stop there when everyone in the area will use the McKenzie Interchange at some point, so add that to the list.

Don't assume that the responses here will not be "even tempered", as we are all very loving on this forum.

No. Victorians chose ( or were lead down the wrong) the path, despite a fair amount of reasoned opposition...

I think for major infrastructure projects the costs could be spread around a bit, but certainly not on an even per-capita basis.

Victoria could have asked around before the bridge design was begun and if they realized they were not going to get anyone else to chip in they could have scaled down their wish list a bit, which, of course, is happening now, only it is costing more.

But the food you eat, the clothes you wear, and the oil you put in your car gets transported across that bridge. Infrastructure benefits us all in one way or another.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the municipal makeup of our region is a terrible handicap.

I fully support tolling the City of Victoria's infrastructure until this bridge is paid off. If other municipalities are unwilling to step up and assist with the single biggest infrastructure undertaking by a municipality in this region then shame on them.

A toll would be needed on the Bay Street Bridge as well.

I don't buy clothes, or oil in Esquimalt, but I think a lot of the food we eat goes over the Bay Street Bridge to Save on Foods,

and over Saanich's new Craigflower bridge to Thrifty's store at Admirals Walk.

I'm not saying your oil is bought in Esquimalt, I'm saying much of what you rely on itself relies on a complex infrastructure network. I don't know how Saanich and Esquimalt didn't have to put a penny "directly" towards the new Admirals bridge but that was a perfect example of regional cooperation through gas taxes and whatever other government monies. What's going on in Victoria and the anti-Victoria sentiment that we see so often just boggles the mind, not to mention the province has turned it's back on this project as well.

The Craigflower Bridge crosses a municipal boundary, so is a regional bridge.

The Johnston Street Bridge is just local.  (Remember: Vic West is part of Victoria!)

So if Vic West was a separate municipality Victorians could have saved money on the bridge by sharing the cost of this now regional bridge. Interesting. 14 munis is apparently what is needed.

Nonsense.  Vic West contributes significantly to Victoria and you would be worse off if they separated.
