The Starbucks near Costco between the mortgage broker and Sleep Country has closed and moved to Millstream Road at Treanor Road. I was in there recently and it has a very different vibe going on. It felt like a bright showroom and not like a café, which was so bizarre as Starbucks tend to have darker design elements and feel enclosed rather than overly bright and airy.

There's a Starbucks that doesn't look at all like a Starbucks at the Sheraton Vancouver

And then there's the Kengo Kuma-designed location in the Shaw Tower atrium

Yes, those have a very similar colour palette to the Millstream/Treanor location.

The Starbucks at UVic is open now as well. Replaced Finnerty Express. It's been very popular.

That was a long time ago, wasn't it?  I remember protests about corporate presence on campus or something like that.

No, Campus Services building (Bookstore). It's by the bus loop.

Just wait till they get a McDonald's. I've heard the one at UBC is one of the highest grossing locations.

I just noticed a new coffee shop, Saint Cecilia, on Lower Yates yesterday evening; has anyone tried it out?

Note that Regus now has operations there; I think this is their second location downtown (after the Atrium).

I tried it in late September. I saw a post about it on Facebook (maybe Victoria Buzz), otherwise I probably wouldn't have noticed it as it has a pretty inconspicuous street presence. I found the place incredibly peaceful. There's very high ceilings with a loft you can sit in. They don't have the standard coffee menu that most places have. For example, I tried to order a mocha, but they didn't have those. Whatever I ended up drinking was good though!

$260k - 1971 oak bay ave.

If you are looking for a coffee shop that makes good money and enjoy working in, you've found it. Good Earth" Franchise Coffee Shop. Wonderful atmosphere with lots of windows and nice decorations. There's enough seating (45) to hold large gatherings or meetings - not many coffee shops have this kind of capacity. Shop serves tasteful baked goods along with a lunch menu. Newest kitchen equipment and appliances. Liquor license is in place as well.

Last month an Oklahoma cop was handed a Starbucks cup with Pig written as his name.

Now two cops in LA were refused service. Starbucks has issued another “we actually like cops” statement.

“There is simply no excuse for how two Riverside deputies were ignored for nearly 5 minutes at our store on Thursday evening. We are deeply sorry and reached out to apologize directly to them. We take full responsibility for any intentional or unintentional disrespect shown to law enforcement on whom we depend every day to keep our stores and communities safe. No customer, in or out of uniform, should ever have that experience at a Starbucks. The partners (employees) who worked that evening will not be scheduled to work while we investigate and take the appropriate steps.”

Some “partners,” eh? After being laughed at by patrons, the two officers left the Starbucks and went elsewhere.

I think all the cops should boycott Starbucks.

I briefly worked at starbucks in downtown Vancouver as a teen.  It was an unwritten rule that police/paramedics in uniform and on shift didn't have to pay for their drinks. I know I certainly never charged them.  It was definitely a mutually beneficial relationship because we relied on the police quite often at that location.  It seemed like every week some crazy dude would barricade himself in the customer washroom or some other disruptive person needed to be escorted from the shop.

Yup, any business that was fortunate to have cops as frequent fliers usually bent over backwards to have them drop by.

I just don't even know what head space these employees are in where they treat first responders like absolute garbage. And these guys just grin and bear it, knowing that sooner or later they'll be called upon by those individuals to assist them.

I honestly think that this was an isolated incident and one not at all in keeping with company values, which is why the company is investigating and (possibly) pursuing disciplinary actions based on findings.

The RCMP come in for meal breaks all the time. Good friends to have.

Whenever we have big power outages hydro and contractors always drink for free, and boy do they appreciate it.

Why would you want anything but the best relationship with these workers?

Matt.

I didn't see this posted anywhere else, but the Starbucks in Tuscany Village is now closed.  Sign up says it will not re-open.
