Esquimalt seems to have very little competition in the coffee market compared to Victoria besides McDonald's/Tim Hortons and a couple more cafes so I could see it doing well there. If a Starbucks ends up opening at the Esquimalt Town Centre project, I can't imagine it would last too much longer. I tried the Blanshard SC location a couple days ago for the first time (basically one of only a couple coffee shops I still hadn't been to in the CoV) and thought it was terrible.

As for the Yates Coffee Bar, I don't think they make a lot of money. A friend of mine worked there for a couple weeks and she said they could rarely afford to have more than one staff member on at a time. It took me forever to try it since whenever I was in the area I just thought "why wouldn't I just go to Habit?". It actually wasn't bad.

Esquimalt Roasting Company is going into the new development, not Starbucks

Speaking of Serious Coffee, while I was on the website to see what locations were still open I found out that a location is opening in New Westminster later this year: https://www.seriousc...ew-westminster/

They also have one in Powell River, I didn't know there were any off-island.

(Copied from the Royal Bay topic)

Sequoia Coffee is coming to Royal Bay. Last night, Colwood approved a "pop-up" coffee shop in Royal Bay to serve the neighbourhood as it develops. Sequoia is a partnership between 2% Jazz and Truffles Catering. via https://liveatroyalb...e-at-royal-bay/ and https://twitter.com/...449508000358400

Sequoia operates the cafe at the Royal BC Museum.

Wonder how long this one will last.

Capricorn hung on a surprisingly long time for never seeming to have anyone in it.

The fact that it's "open before renovations" per the paper signage doesn't bode well for the cafe's cash flow or business plan. When you have to scramble to get every penny before you can afford to paint the walls, you've got problems.

It was closed for a few months and when it reopened this week all that looked different was the white painted walls. I don't know what the point was. This site seems to attract the koo koo operators. I'm looking forward to next week's opening of Rob Kettner's Hey Happy at the bottom of Johnson Street.

Ironically Coo Coo Coffew on Davie Street in Vancouver has been thriving since at least the mid 00s...

Well, that's the secret. You have to embrace the koo koo.

Is the company planning to replace it with an alternate location nearby...?

That's two locations in recent times, first Tillicum closed and now Fairfield.

This is quite peculiar as Fairfield is the only commercial area in that part of town, and whenever I'd stop by the plaza the Starbucks would appear busy. Granted, it's a small space, and perhaps the costs to keep it open were too high.

The location at Cook Street Village can be overwhelmingly busy.  Maybe they can open a location somewhere else in the general area to relieve pressure on Cook St?

Yes! Totally. They also closed the store next to Best Buy in Langford but re-opened across from Axe and Barrel (soon to be V2V) at Millstream and Treanor.

My husband just told me about the Fairfield Plaza one. I'm surprised. Although I don't care for Starbucks, it always seemed busy.
