It’ll be a while. That’s the last phase of the project. Given that phase one won’t complete until 2029, it’s not likely to proceed until 2035 ish.

What is it with calling everything your DESTAINED business???

Step into the office of Destined Home located in University Heights shopping centre, and you might think that you have stepped into the offices of an Internet start-up.

[...]

Consider the biography of lead realtor Daniel Hsu, who has lived and worked in Victoria for 28 years. Dealing in both residential and commercial real estate, Hsu has been working out of his home, an environment filled with distractions. “One of the reasons I wanted to be in an office location was because it is more structured for myself,” he said.

destined, not destained. It's a positive term, meant to provide warm fuzzy feelings... sales pitchy.

Which is a rather ironic statement, coming from a retired lawyer ;).

Starbucks shuttering stores, laying off 900 workers in Canada and U.S.

Many locations falling short of financial performance targets, CEO says in open letter

Starbucks said Thursday that it expects to end its fiscal year with 18,300 stores in North America, down 124 from last year. It's rare for Starbucks to shrink its store count during a fiscal year.

That’s 1%. It’s crazy how many stores they have.

We’ve seen four or five close in downtown Victoria in recent years.

Two on Government, one at the steamship terminal, one at the Bay Centre. Anywhere else?

Two have opened, both private franchises I think, at the DoubleTree and in the Customs House.

An always packed Starbucks closed their location over in Cadboro Bay a few years ago, and it was immediately replaced by an always jammed to the rafters Moka House.

In other words, the closure seemingly had nothing to do with the number of patrons attending - so who really knows what their actual metric is for closing a store.

I've long wondered if they simply close stores at the first whiff of organized labour knocking at the door, and/or if their landlord doesn't capitulate 100% to corporate Starbucks demands.

It might also be that they have staffing shortages at some locations. Or there are other limitations, like parking. The Cadboro Bay location was notorious for not having sufficient parking spaces.

Yup. The first location in Victoria.

18,300 stores. 124 are closing. And the hallmark location in Victoria is one of them. Maybe the location is just too small, as they focus more on larger locations.

We used to be told bike lanes increase business. Now that line has been dropped. This location is along the newest bike lane downtown.

Yeah, this has been pretty apparent with the Starbucks drama for quite a few years now.

Methinks it might be signifying the conclusion of the very same social experiment that brought us "Starbucks everywhere" in the first place, along with that brief wave of positive (rather than destructive) urban and social renewal.

Buckle up, in other words.

Sounds like Cook Street Village is losing its Starbucks as well.

Even factories that print money aren't necessarily able to make enough money to stay in business.

I wonder, if with the advent of point systems and consumer tracking, if their algorithms suggest that demand is inelastic if a specific location goes down. There must be some method to these decisions.
