Didn't they go overboard with the panels on the little building?
It's impossible to escape spandrel glass these days, and I have a suspicion it will be the red brick of the future.

11 decks poured on the tower?

11 decks poured on the tower?
Yes... and I'm not sure how many more they can go before they need to 'lift' the crane, with the extra sections sitting down at Roundhouse.

How exactly is the crane supposed to get taller? This is NOT a climber crane as it's missing the climber cage at the top of the mast.
Here is how a climber crane gets taller: https://youtu.be/vx5Qt7_ECEE

Okay, to answer my own question, the existing crane will raise an external "climbing frame" that will be attached around one of the mast sections near the top. It will then behave as a normal climbing crane with the ability to add new mast sections without assistance.
Word from the site is that the crane will be raised by 4 mast sections beginning the week of December 3rd. This should be really interesting to see as I think this will be the tallest crane to add mast sections ever in Victoria.
As usual, the crane scale model community often has the best pictures of such an add-on device.

I see the mucous-coloured spandrels are making an appearance in the tower now.

Crikey, they're really going overboard. It seems like the Bayview buildings are going full steam ahead in the wrong direction now. So where is the city with all of its meticulous scrutinizing and such? Northern Junk got raked over the frickin' coals and it looked fantastic.

If ever there was a moment when I'd actually want the city to pore over these sorts of design aspects it would have to be right now, with the tall tower pending. Shutters and Promontory elevated the Songhees esthetic in a huge way, and it would be so disappointing if the formula from here forward = 101 creative ways to use standard-issue green spandrel panels.

I am sorry to say this building looks worse and worse the further they get ahead. Those Spandrels are an eyesore. Green spandrels + red brick= eye sore! Someone needs to tell Mariash to mix things up or the lime bay building will be a big miss. At least a different color spandrel. I wonder if buyers of Encore were aware that their windows are not floor to ceiling at time of purchase. The Bayview was done too high quality, Promontory a bit on the lower end with chinese quartz, 2 elevators and now we have the Walmart section of Bayview Place.

Watching the windows/panels go up on the 'mini Encore' some time ago made me question why so many panels.... now seeing them go up on the 'big Encore' up to the 2nd/3rd floors, it is really concerning. I'm sure that the future owners who drive by on weekends, are now realizing what they are going to get. I'm certain that it is NOT what they envisioned at the time of purchase,
What would the reasoning behind using spandrel panels be ? Probably a dumb question... .but my thoughts are COST ? Having more panels means more cross sections in the span, potentially reducing the gauge/thickness of glass used?

If this is Wal Mart than the older buildings at Songhees must be K Mart and Dollar Giant.

That's a reasonable analogy, aesthetically speaking.

Any place that is either defunct or sells "Krest" toothpaste would be a reasonable analogy.

Oh hey, look at that. Jonny's rendering depicts a different design.
