11AM Google maps is showing east bound traffic on Gorge at the sinkhole and west bound up to Albina.

At 930AM Saanich tweeted it was still a full road closure.

I wish I had nothing better to do than sit on a bridge for 12 hours

Probably gets boring pretty quickly.

Then I guess you'd want your protest position to be on the side of the bridge.

In years past you could have peed right through the bridge deck.

There are a large number of traffic cones waiting on the sidewalk at the Esquimalt/Harbour road intersection.

I haven't seen anyone delivering porta-potties. No food trucks yet either.

A certain tugboat captain would like a word with you.

At some point a protest can become not only a public nuisance but a danger to the public. Heavily congested thoroughfares in all directions means emergency service vehicles may be obstructed, meaning there is a risk to life in the event of an emergency.

I don't think VicPD will allow this to proceed in the same manner they've overseen peaceful protest actions under different circumstances. I may very well be proven wrong but if the force conducts itself as business-as-usual this will not reflect well on their image, and right now the VicPD is (as we all well know) very image-conscious due to its funding issues.

I suspect Vicpd is taking a similar approach as with tent city and just enforcing the law, or not, according to the mayor's wishes.

If I was a Nanaimo realtor (for example) I'd walk up and down the stalled traffic today and hand out business cards and listing brochures

Traffic is being diverted to where, exactly?

Know it all.

Tillicum/Lampson is backed up almost to Esquimalt Rd as the Tillicum Bridge is currently the closest way for Vic West/Esquimalt residents to get across the Gorge.

Google Maps has the drive from Equimalt/Lampson to Gorge/Tillicum as 17 minutes. That's normally about a 5 minute drive without traffic. Google Maps actually has that drive as shorter if you take the Craigflower Bridge instead of the Tillicum Bridge.

This protest isn't going to change anyone's mind.

An unrelated observation, notice the backhoe digging up the east bank.  Remember that was "hydro-seeded" last year.  Maybe this time they're going to put in some real sod.

Is it an electric backhoe?

Notice how we can pony up the police to guard these jokers, but don't want them at Remembrance Day events.
