I popped in the other day as well. Very impressed.
One hiccup was the cart escalator was broken.
I believe the issue may have been that they didn't have the right carts just yet. I believe they do now.

I made my first trip into the new CT today. It looks great and items were well-stocked. Their Xmas section was especially impressive. I can't say I am particularly fond of self-check-outs. Unless there is a savings on the cost of my purchase I'd just as soon see someone employed in this capacity. I made the conscious decision to use a "traditional" cashier today, even for a simple purchase.
I agree that including a Mark's clothing outlet at CT is a bit of a missed opportunity. I don't really see any competitor for that at Hillside. No more of a conflict with Sears than CT is already. Other than Tip Top I don't believe there is any other men's clothing retailer in the centre. Bootlegger and Warehouse One tend to appeal to a younger clientele than Mark's.

Future expansion space?
The rest of the space on the upper floor houses their warehouse.

When I was in last week there were only 8 tire options on display for cars and trucks.

I've never bought tires at Canadian Tire.
They are not likely to have tires at the Hillside store except the samples.
The tires will probably be at the 3993 Cedar Hill Road Service Centre where they can install them.
I don't buy tires from them either.

With Canadian Tire owning Marks Work Warehouse, I think it's a bit of a lost opportunity to bring that to the upper floor, but I suspect deals Hillside has with other clothing retailers might have been an issue there.
I was hoping that CT would fit a Marks' into that space somewhere. Had thought it would be a good addition to Hillside Mall. Neither downtown nor Broadmead store are convenient to get to.
Interestingly, was up-island briefly today. Just north of Duncan, passed the commercial centre there and observed that Marks' is co-located with the CT there.

Considering they own Atmosphere and SportChek and they anchor the other end of the mall I think it may have something to do with it.
Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember something about Canadian Tire taking over Forzani.
Different markets though, I don't see Marks competing with Sport Chek. However, Canadian Tire does sell camping and other recreational equipment that could draw customers away from Sport Chek and Admosphere. Or is this a similar strategy used by Best Buy when they put Best Buy stores near Future Shop stores?

Very different markets still. Atmosphere and Sportchek cater to the middle class and up for camping, athletic and sport gear. Canadian Tire is the budget store for that stuff.

I'm not very athletic or campy, so I wouldn't know. Thanks for clearing that up.

^There is a Marks at Broadmead and Westshore as well.
I believe Grant was referring to the fact that the Duncan CT store actually has a Mark's location inside of it. The Boardmead and Westshore Mark's locations are standalone from the CTs there.

Okay hillside is a really nice store, the off-gassing seems to have minimalized, lighting seems better at this point, and they don't make you go through the turnstile.
