Victoria plans suite of measures to take sting out of extreme heat
The City of Victoria is planning ahead for the next extreme heat event after last year's heat dome caused temperatures to rise to almost 40 C.
Patterson said in extreme cases cooling centres may have to be established where the public can go to get some relief.
She noted local shopping centres and libraries offer air-conditioned spaces, while many senior’s centres offer similar kinds of places.
She said the city will create its own centres in the same way warming centres are established in the winter, by activating facilities to handle an influx of people.
Cooling centres, she said, would ideally be centralized, air-conditioned buildings that would have washing facilities and be pet friendly.

Given that well over 99% of the people in the CoV have homes, wouldn’t it just make more sense to just remind people how to cool at home? Surely a shower or bath beats going out to a “mist centre”.
A similar education program can exist for the homeless.

Some parts of the planet expected to become too hot for humans to live in
https://www.cbc.ca/n...ation-1.6467410
India and Pakistan recently saw temperatures soar to 50 C, killing at least 90 people and devastating agricultural harvests.
________
Canada is also feeling the effects of extreme heat: in British Columbia last summer, 595 people died from the heat. The village of Lytton, B.C., set a new Canadian heat record (49.6 C) on June 29, before it was razed by a wildfire the next day. The same "heat dome" left the ground parched, contributing to catastrophic flooding in B.C. months later.
India population: 1.38 billion
BC population: 5 million.
So BC has nearly 300x less people.
This article is garbage. For example, it never states where on the planet people will be “unable to live”, even though that’s the sub-headline.

It's CBC. They have to publish at least one fear article like this every day, or risk losing government funding.

...Some parts of the planet expected to become too hot for humans to live in...
Some parts of the planet have been inhospitable to human life for millennia, i.e. Antarctica. Perhaps climate change will mitigate this.

The earth's climate was 100% stable and unchanging until about a century ago. That's what contemporary climate science has taught me.

Now the world is secular we talk about climate catastrophe ending the world.
Extinction rebellion loonies are merely the modern equivalent of a guy on the corner with a sign saying “the end is near.” Prophesying the end of the world is just something humans are prone to do.

“The heat dome was definitely one of those historic events. It was a one-in-a-100-years event, so I surely hope that won’t occur again this year.”

A cold May on Vancouver Island and no heat dome on the horizon — yet...
Adding "yet" is such a **** move. It's like they are hoping for another excess heat event. I am sick of the fear tactics perpetuated by the media to support a particular agenda.

Are they saying we live under a dome?
Even Stephen King - the modern master of horror - didn't have a great deal of success with this concept.

So if there's more severe winter weather, won't that counter the effect of melting polar ice?

“ Variation in sea level change between the four B.C. sites is largely explained by different amounts of vertical land movement. Land along the southwest coast of Vancouver Island is rising at about 25 centimetres per century, while vertical land motion of Prince Rupert is negligable, thus explaining the approximately 25 centimetres difference in sea-level change between Tofino and Prince Rupert.”
