I want to buy some fish, but the prices are crazy!
I need some suggestions when it comes to buying fish. .
Should I buy it directly from a fisherman? Do you guys know one?
Thanks!

Best prices are the local natives... usually have a pickup setup selling fish up the peninsula by 17 and Mt Newton Cross I think. If you're thinking more deep ocean fish, I don't have any good cheap options.

Although first nations only won a court battle last year that gave them the right to sell fish to the public, I have not seen a roadside sale site in that area.
M.AL, your request seems a little fishy for a first time poster. Why wouldn't you go to Fisherman's Wharf and see what's for sale there? You aren't suggesting to buy your dinner from a sport fisherman are you?

Buying fish from a licensed fisherman is one thing but buying fish from an unlicensed sports fisherman is illegal (unless it's a native fisherman). We do not condone illegal activity here and it would be best to ask for sources of fish elsewhere if playing the legal game isn't your thing.

What we need are fish dispensaries.

Pretty sure most sport fishermen have licenses for fishing, but sport fishing licenses do not include the right to sell the fish, it is only for personal consumption (or you can give it away, I think).
M.Al needs to go to a grocery store that has seafood, a commercial fisher, or a native fisher.

Maybe the o.p. is looking for Trout to stock a pond.

Thrifty's!
For retail, back in the day when I shopped there, Thrifty's actually wasn't too bad in terms of selection. SoF OTOH is terrible. That said we just buy straight off the dock at Fisherman's Wharf. When I lived on the mainland I would make the trek out to Steveston and do the same. There is no better tasting seafood than fresh caught right off the boat.

Today we bought 22 spot prawns for $10 from a native fisher at the corner of Mount Newton X Road and Lochside Drive (.45 cents) per prawn...and they were excellent! Last year we bought 18 spot prawns from the Satellite Fish Store in Sidney for $18 bucks plus tax ( over a buck per prawn). Unfortunately the fisher keeps an irregular schedule...he is there some days and not others.
