A car enthusiast’s dream on Oak Bay Avenue Sunday

Check out more than 300 unique cars as the annual Oak Bay Collector Car Festival returns for its 23rd year, along Oak Bay Avenue, on Sunday.

The free community event showcases vehicles of all makes and vintages owned by collector car owners and other enthusiasts.

The vehicles will be displayed along five blocks of Oak Bay Avenue, from Monterey to Mitchell Street, plus portions of Hampshire Road and Elgin Street.

Prizes will be awarded to a selection of entrants based on several categories, with local businesses and notable personalities as judges.

Food trucks will be on site.

Car exhibitors pay $20 with online registration or $25 in person the morning of the event.

Gate opens for car exhibitors starting at 8 a.m. The event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 23. For more information, or to register, go to OakBayCarFestival2023.eventbrite.com.

We caught the car display at Oak Bay on Sunday.

There must have been at least 2,000 people there.

Heck, it was busy by 9, an hour before it was supposedly open to the public!

Is Vancouver’s waterfront filled with sharks, or something?

Ken Agate – the man known for bringing classic cars to The Avenue and vibrancy to the village – died Monday (Sept. 11) after a battle with cancer.

Agate died “peacefully and gently” in hospice, said longtime friend Joan Stein, who was at his side.

She praised the loving, excellent care and attention Agate received in his months with Victoria Hospice.

In ailing health and 79 years old, Agate carefully handed the wheel of his Collector Car Show to Ron Dempsey and Tony Joe. He founded the show in 1999 around the same time he was among those who created a fledgling Tourism Oak Bay.

Agate also owned The Blethering Place, a restaurant on The Avenue where The Oaks is now, from 1981 to 2011.
