Hm..while i knew what Wankel engines were prior to this thread, my only exposure to them was in early Mazda RX3/4/5? applications in the early 80s. I just spent .25 hour reading about them on Wikipedia..

gas companies want more money? though i'm sure they will say it's something to do with refineries shutting down for cleans or switching formulas or weather.... ohhh or maybe it's a big middle finger to the cancellation of the pipeline

Must be a month-end thing, as after holding steady through February gas went up another 9c a litre yesterday.
Wonder if they'll try to blame this one on the winter storms in Texas...

That and COVID-19. It really comes in handy to justify any unpopular decision.

Covid did the reverse actually... Price dropped to a historic low in March last year due to lack of demand amid work and travel restrictions. That's rebounded and we're climbing back up to where we were before.

I know, but that doesn't mean it won't be used as an excuse for higher prices at the pump.

$1.689 for my gas today. 50.925 liters was $86.01. It'll last me a couple of weeks, tops.

The Cunningham family, who have been fixing cars and selling gasoline on the Saanich Peninsula for 98 years and through five generations, have pulled down the bay doors and shut off the pumps.
The station on the Pat Bay Highway near Elk Lake was sold to a Vancouver buyer this month who will redevelop the site into a Chevron station, likely by September, says the family.

On April 1, 2019, B.C.'s carbon tax rate rose from $35 to $40 per tCO2e. The rate is scheduled to increase to $45 per tonne on April 1, 2021 and to $50 per tonne on April 1, 2022. To help provide relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, a previously scheduled increase was postponed in 2020.

Great, so I'll just spend a little less at local businesses.

How many cents per litre at the pump does this $5 increase translate to?

Even at premium gas prices, my gas expense is a lot less than the monthly payment on an electric car. In the absence of a reasonable alternative, all this does is drive up the burden on the working class.

General question - I also drive a gas powered vehicle, so I'm not asking from a "holier than thou" perspective.
What is the macro impact of choosing to use gas over hydro to power a vehicle? Eg increased health care costs due to poor air quality etc?
