You mean out to sea towrds the open Ocean?

Huh I have been near Trail Island and just the other day was at Race Rocks and the sea seems to go both ways.

In the straight and out he straight

I had no idea it only went one way

The tide goes back and forth.  Averaging out the tides, the mean flow in the upper 75 m is out to sea.  It has to be, otherwise the fresh water from the Fraser would make the water here get fresher and fresher.

Well with all that being said I still think that stuff floating in the straight can go from our area to puget sound area sounds I don't think that all the water coming from the north enters in at Queen Charlotte straight and travels out mouth of jdf
Also if you took samples of sea water from east side of Galiano or from tswassen area the water would in fact be less salty

People have been studying the oceanography of the Strait for many decades.  The plots above are from 1980.  I think the basics of the circulation are quite well understood.

Surface water tends to flow S from the Fraser and head out to sea.  Exactly what happens north of the Fraser is somewhat more poorly understood, but in general, surface water flows north by the time you are in Johnstone St.  Surface water flows almost exclusively out of Puget Sound.

The odds of something that is floating offshore of Victoria floating to Puget Sound are infinitesimal.

You are correct that the water off Tswassen is indeed less salty that the ocean.  However the Fraser has been flowing or thousands of years, so that fresh water has to go somewhere out to sea or the whole Salish Sea would be fresh.  https://en.wikipedia...ter_circulation

I like that Space image poster of South Western BC in Colour the one where you can see the water from the Fraser flowing into the Georgia straight and smashing in to the side of Galiano Island and Valdez Island

Two tugs are moving the barge up the harbour.  Just cleared the Bay Street bridge.  Moving very slowly.  I wish I had my camera with me.

Hope it is more stable than a jiggly jelly sandwich,

They've docked the barge at Point Hope Shipyard.  I imagine they are inspecting the haul for damage - probably much easier to do here without all the scrap junk that fell into the water at the accident site.  Note the Seaspan truck.

It looks about 5 rows shorter that the one that fell apart.

My hunch is that they will find the barge is good to go.

The Salish Sea has arrived at Schnitzer Steel to do some work.  Pulling cars out of the water?

And all other manner of junk that fell off.  Also, the barge is no longer at Point Hope Shipyard - they snuck it out right around the time the Arctic Tuk arrived.  I assume they finally pulled it to its original destination.

I walked by the barge area this afternoon and watched the Salish Sea crane operator attempt to pickup cars that had fallen to the bottom of the Gorge. He was 0 for 23 while I was there which is about how successful I am trying to use the claw to pick up those stuffed animals from the vending machine at the mall.

His dips probably cost more than $1 each, too.

I'd pay somewhat good money for a turn, depending upon what type of car i get.

For that matter any construction site in Victoria could make a little money on the side with a sideshow: https://www.youtube....bed/9FrpYhShuaI

I'm sure electromagnets can work in water. In just sceptical that too many junkyard cranes have appropriately insulated wiring. I'm also curious how much lift a typical electromagnet could generate. A car would be pretty heavy if it's full of water.
