If it was downtown I could see myself playing a few games, bringing a maximum reasonable amount of money with me.Never been to the View Royal casino, only ever visited casinos while traveling I have to admit.
Check aaaaaaaanddd mate.

Maybe the Eaton's Centrer?

However a casino downtown might make enough revenue for the government so they can issue a gaming grant to build a new state of the art homeless shelter.

Slightly off topic but maybe not by much. You just made me think about facilities for the homeless like Our Place. Just maybe the loving objective that was sought for the unfortunate ones is actually a curse. Is it possible that facilitating the homeless and have them gather in one central location actually enables that lifestyle.
When gambling was only legal in Nevada, there was a wake of addicted gamblers left with ruined lives once their money was gone.

We don't need any "state of the art" homeless facilities. We need more in Saanich and Oak Bay.
We just recorded our latest LG&E and the Nanaimo head planner talks about spreading the load in a number of neighbourhoods and how it working for their community. They apply the same "Good Neighbour" rules applied to the bars downtown to the homes and it seems to be working. Out Monday.

^ I would agree. Especially with the vultures that prey upon the weaknesses of this segment of society circling outside it's doors.
Kind of like a bear at the top of a fish ladder.
Gamblers can do that online now if they need their fix, hard to order a bowl of soup online.

Why would a tourist go to some chump change casino in Victoria when he can gamble onboard?
Folks go to Vegas to gamble, they come to Victoria to see the scenery and flowers etc. I just can't see it working.

See the TC thread for the breakdown.
Yeah, I did not know that.
I went into the View Royal casino once, what a depressing place it is.

A casino in downtown Victoria would be for the locals who don't want to drive through the crawl to get their fix.

There is free shuttle bus, so they really don't have to drive.

A fair statement.

Oak Bay and Saanich don't have enough "state of the art" doorways.

Oh, they have them, like all municipalities have them, but the police in all the other jurisdictions do not allow people to sleep in them. That's a uniquely City of Victoria thing.

Sure they have doorways but not enough, and the municipalities don't have enough walk-by traffic to support topping up the baseball hats.
Victoria has wider sidewalks and flat pavement that is ideal for shopping carts.
Maybe the city needs to build motorized carts for the homeless and widen the bike lanes to create more room for them.
