Can you imagine the many nice things we'd have with amalgamation?

Rather than bickering about who pays for what ... we'd actually have pretty close to world-class "everything", all in the best weather in the country.

What's becoming terribly apparent though, is that the CRD isn't just "13 little municipalities" ... it's actually comprised of a full spectrum of far-left to far-right voters, who - in the grand scheme of things - probably couldn't agree on how to cook an egg let alone amalgamate and try to do things like bridges, pools, arts centres, etc as ONE rather than as a bunch of tired little kingdoms who can only wonder who's paying for what - and more commonplace "what's in it for me"?

I believe the fear (what appears to be confirmed in the comments above) is an attitude of "what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine".  As I have mentioned before, I would be OK with 2 or 3 amalgamated cities, but one would simply drain funds into the core.  From policing costs to whatever, the underlying motive is to retain commercial revenue for downtown residents while extracting new funds from others that are not downtown.

Anyways,back to the pool.

I have a lot of good memories of that old pool.

My dad took me swimming there every Wednesday night when I was a kid, then after the swim we went down into the sunken lounge with the underwater windows where you could watch people swimming in the pool, and he always bought me a Coffee Crisp from the vending machine.

And I remember all the lockers has these keys with and orange plastic end on it, and a safety pin thing where you would pin it to your shorts.

Were you upset to see it become the tropical bird sanctuary and then the satellite to VCC?  ;)

I liked the exotic animal attraction that was in the old crystal pool location for many years. Too bad it was removed really. Great little attraction.

But all my memories are from the one on Quadra St.

Wrong pool.

I am fully aware Star Dust meant the existing Crystal Pool.

The need for a sarcasm font grows larger with each passing day.

A very unique look underneath the floor of the Old Crystal Pool.

Once the pool was closed they constructed a concrete floor over top of it.

This is how it looks today. The original pool tiles are still in place and preserved in history.

Heating and Air ducts now occupy the space, but pretty cool eh?

If you have the right connections, you just may be able to have a peak down here.

No chance. The ceiling is way too low.

The pool (now part of the VCC) that existed across Douglas Street from the Empress Hotel before the current Crystal Pool was built in the early 1970s.
