The whole must-replace, can't-refurbish thing looks to me like just another example of how our local govt spends like someone who just won a lottery and then dropped acid.

I swear they have no concept of the fact that people work hard to pay their taxes and that, as much as a brand-new pool may be a super-cool idea, there are a whole lot of other things that need taking care of first.

Come back to me when Pandora ceases to look like a mini-DTES, when our roads are well maintained, and when people feel safe to walk downtown. Then we can talk about a new pool.

She has her JSB audit to feel smug about now.

I don't know why she can feel smug about that. Doing what should be done? Big deal, for ONCE she is doing her job. Because she calls for an audit shouldn't really be of benefit to her or her campaign.

Agreed, but you KNOW she's going to make the most of it to promote how she listens to people and responds to all viewpoints

...5 weeks before an election.

there is now some type of a proposal or suggestion of a “modular” temporary parking structure that can be installed in the arena lot and cars park on an elevated platform. sounds like a typical mayor plan she likes temporary things that cost a lot. instead of a proper garage.

WTF is "modular parking"? This?
Global-Car-Carrier-Market.jpg
Other than cost, why not build a permanent parking structure at the SOFMC?
(as it should have had in the first place)

Do you have a link to this proposal VW?

Thank you.

From the MORE PARK website:

The MORE PARK® System is the lowest-cost parking deck available, it is completely demountable and can be used either in a permanent or semi-permanent manner, but can be dismantled and transported to another site and reused an unlimited number of times.  When demounted, it leaves your site with a clean undisturbed footprint, ready for future development

I suppose it could be a relatively inexpensive way to add additional parking to the SOFMC lot, but unless future development of the land is envisioned - and I am not sure that it is - is it really better than traditional above ground parking structures?

And of course, it only allows for one additional level of parking.

An animation as a picture of your product and the comment below don't instill much confidence. But then again Ted talks and google searches have been the backbone of CoV planning for the last 3 years so why change now?

Currently, there are hundreds of installations of demountable steel and concrete single story parking structures along the lines of the MORE PARK® System throughout Europe and the UK.

There's things like the morepark all over the place in Japan.  Also some pretty cool automated systems like this: https://cityliftpark...solutions/aisle

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Heard on C-Fax the other day that they are designing the pool building to have a "Curve"  in it to avoid removing one single tree. The Cost of that curve according to the guest on C-Fax.......5 Million dollars.

Cut the tree down and the project will be 5 million dollars cheaper.

I think that it was a few trees but the point of the argument is the same.

The city had no problem cutting down trees for the Fort Street bike lane.

Perhaps these are Garry Oaks? The bending over this region takes to protect those trees is insane.

I don't believe that they are but I could be wrong.
