The land is now for sale. Loblaw says it will include an 'in tow' lease for a future 100,000 square foot grocery store to anchor a redevelopment effort.

It would be great if that were the choice. We need one of those markets here. Even mix it with a SuperStore T&T as 100k square feet is huge!!

In the Vancouver Island market, the company operates under brand names that include Real Canadian SuperStore, Wholesale Club, T&T Market, Shoppers Drug Mart, and No Frills.

Where is the T&T Market located that Loblaw's operates on Vancouver Island?

A T&T Supermarket would be great! Although, I’m sure Loblaws would say we aren’t big enough of a region to support it. I really like the T&T in Richmond at Lansdowne Shopping Centre. It’s in an old Target location and the store is huge at 74,000 sq feet.

I think it will be a real Canadian superstore given the site of the site

Is this Victoria or Saanich? If it is the former I would expect that 20 stories of below market rental to be a condition of any rezoning or development permit!

I am pretty sure this site is in Saanich.

Yes, it’s in Saanich. Certainly no reason not to go as tall as possible, if the other bookend is going for it (24-storey tower at Uptown).

Looks like this site finally has activity!
They have cleaned up all the existing concrete and removed most of the garbage and debris from the site.
Currently, it is fenced off and there is a large wooden structure sitting on cribbing with more pallets of cribbing at the side.

I'm not sure what is happening, but definitely something.

I can't wait for this prime piece of real estate to have ANYTHING on it.

The Saanich development tracker page says the last update was March 15 2010.

It says "on hold" for variances.

That 12 years went by quick.

Large structures covered in white material have been set up on the former Mayfair Lanes property in Saanich, the first activity on a site that has been largely vacant for 16 years.

The 3.38-acre property went on the market last year at an unspecified price. Landowner Loblaw Properties West Inc. is aiming to become a tenant with a 100,000-square-foot grocery store on the site. Loblaw owns the Real Canadian Superstore chain.

Marcus and Millichap of Vancouver have been marketing the property, describing it as a high-density, mixed-use development opportunity. Curtis Leonhardt, first vice-president of investments with the real estate firm, had no comment this week. A Loblaw spokesperson could not be reached.

I feel there might have been a bit more investigative reporting here.  Maybe walk over and look under the "white material" and see what's going on?

I wonder if any recently retired VVer with time on their hands needs to go for a walk (as I know they do not take transit).   :rtfm:

If you believe the TC's own published numbers, it's their most popular online article for 2 straight days now.  More interest than hand grenades.

It’s just storage for pre-fab/manufactured housing components, it looks like to me. Same thing Ogden Point was used for some months back.

“The plans for the site have yet to be finalized, however, in the meantime the site will possibly be used for temporary storage,” the company wrote in an email to Black Press Media. “We would like to assure the community that there is no modular housing complex planned for this site at this time.”

Anything new here?

Are the white boxes still here?

Nope. But the next time some random item is stored on the property, I expect we’ll see front page news wondering what it’s for (like with the white boxes).

Personally, I think there's an IKEA store inside those white boxes just waiting for someone with an Allen key to put it together.
