Yeah, a big, big oops. It's a bit of a bad marketing situation where Tesla just sent up "space junk."
Its amazing marketing. Everyone is talking about it and the david bowie was a great touch

You can't not talk about how poor the execution was, and trust me, the "space junk" thing is not lost on most people, lol.
The car is junk, and now it's ...space junk! Get it? Anybody? Ok I'll let myself out....

Quite transparent.
If it doesn't align to the world view it must somehow be flawed. Therefore find some irrelevant detail which isnt perfect and make a big deal of it. While not expecting a 10th of the perfection for things that align to the world view.
Bet I could find a 100 deficiencies on any construction project, but they are treated as just that. For an amazing engineering feat, hold it to a higher test any magnify a small issue.
Hell, I can hardly jump 2 feet and land on both legs - landing two rockets closer than some synchro divers can pull off is stunning.
Don't panic

I think it will go down as one of the great publicity stunts. The space junk is a minimal.
We have more junk in the way of green bikes littering our Victoria street corners, which is more of a negative than firing a Tesla into space.

Cramer vs. Chaikin: 'Tesla - Own the Car, Sell the Stock' Says Marc Chaikin
http://www.latimes.c...0207-story.html
Tesla Inc. reported a fourth-quarter loss of $675.4 million, or $4.01 a share, on revenue of $3.29 billion, marking the Palo Alto car company's biggest quarterly loss ever.
At this rate Bombardier is in for some serious competition for the number of consecutive losses!!!

Tesla literally relies on tax payer subsidies to sell cars. No subsidies, no sales (as a general rule of thumb).
Hong Kong ended subsidies in mid-2017 and sales of Tesla vehicles dried up overnight. At the time the company said:
"Tesla absolutely believes that the Hong Kong market will continue to be very strong over the long term because it's clear that the people in Hong Kong love our cars."
Fast-forward a few months to today:
"US electric car maker Tesla is prepared to reduce its Hong Kong operations if the government fails to give residents incentives to buy battery-powered cars in its upcoming budget, a source close to the company told the Post."

In some markets that is true. There are no subsidies in BC and Tesla still sells lots of vehicles.

I think there would be the Clean Energy instant rebate in BC actually. Like 5K.

Any CEV with a manufacturer suggested retail price above $77,000 will not be eligible for a vehicle purchase incentive from the CEV Program.
There are no Tesla's currently for sale at less than $77K. Many other States and Provinces have similar restrictions on their grants.
As an FYI, it is very unlikely that the initial batches of model 3's sold in Canada will be less than $77K either.
