Nio has secured $1 billion in funding. The stock has doubled in value over the last couple of weeks but it’s still a ways from its $6 IPO, currently trading at $4.50.

Tesla being investigated for cases of unintended acceleration....

https://globalnews.c...cceleration-us/

The U.S. government’s auto safety agency is looking into allegations that all three of Tesla‘s electric vehicles can suddenly accelerate on their own.

I honestly thought that was a feature - FSD?

EDIT: These all seem to be low-speed turning/parking incidents.  One report had the driver claim he was pressing the brake and Tesla said the logs showed the accelerator go from 48% to 98%...

Maybe what's needed is a hardware interlock between the pedals so that braking mechanically disconnects the accelerator pedal.

Or a(nother) onboard camera in the driver's footwell to exonerate (or otherwise)  the operator in situations like this.  Forget dashcams, we need to protect ourselves from our own cars.

The amount of data car companies now collect on drivers is absolutely staggering. Knowing where the vehicle is at all times is just the start of the massive surveillance the manufacturers have found themselves in charge of when they can remotely assess your gas pedal was pressed in 35% at 11:25:17.

Now imagine what someone with malicious intent can achieve here when they can remotely control a vehicle.

That's already the case.  https://www.cbsnews....ar-credit-city/

Accelerator logs are in every car.  Basically equivalent of black box in a plane.  It's mandatory.

No they're not.  NHTSA is only evaluating the petition to decide whether to investigate.

And the petition is from a TSLA short seller.  Surprise surprise.

Oh yeah, I'm not singling out any one brand here. Just saying vehicles collect huge sums of data and send it off to head office.

That's what you meant by what someone with "malicious intent" could do?  :)

I bet Dasmo is happy about his stock picks this year.

Any manufacturer that isn't going all out on electric vehicles is in trouble.

Will be interesting to see if Rivian can deliver.  They have an insane order book.  100,000 vans from Amazon, a truck, an SUV, apparently working on a truck with Ford, and also a vehicle with Lincoln?

All coming from a company that so far has delivered nothing.  But it seems their partners have confidence.

This is likely a more reasonable sign of things to come. The big 3 will just watch what the start-ups do, and buy into them/take them over as necessary.

They can even share licensing, with production/technology going to various manufacturers without any one of them taking over the one company. Think Ford and GM, which developed a 10-speed automatic transmission together, and who utilize components in their vehicles made by the same third parties.

Jesus, the Tesla surge is insane! Dasmo called it. I gotta say it was tough not jumping in when it was on the low $200s but hey, that’s the way it goes.

1000HP.  Enough batteries to move what amounts to a brick through the air an appreciable distance.  Possible but what price?  The H2 used to go for $60-$70k so they have some latitude but I expect starting price in the $70k US range and top config into six figures.

Rivian is targetting $70kUS.   Tesla says $40k start for Mike's favourite truck.
