Not everyone has a level 2 charger at their home. I'd wager most do not have access to a level 2 charger, and lots more do not have access to a 120v outlet at their parking spot.

Don't you think the average Tesla buyer lives in a SFD?

Based on market research performed by Hedges & Company in 2018, it turns out the average Tesla owner is a 54 year old white man making over $140,000 with no children.

(yes, I realize that some people own condos)

I don't know. But I know lots of people who live in condos own Teslas (no plug at their spot; maybe a plug or two within the building), and lots of electric vehicles on our roads are not Teslas. I would wager there are just as many first gen Leafs as there are Teslas of any kind, and those Leafs are unlikely to reach 100km of range.

If Tesla fails, so be it.  I've got no money in it.

But I do believe the great change to EV is coming.  And it'll be almost like horse/buggy > car.

Most should cheer that.

Change to EV will be forced if not optional! I am just saying that battery and electric motor tech are not new. Despite what startups raising money want you to believe, there is no magic bullet to vastly increase density or efficiency. We are seeing slow incremental steps like most mature tech.

Efficiency in this space certainly is new.  There is no reach for real efficiency for electric motors that work off mains power, like your table saw or blender.

Battery tech certainly is new, comparatively.  It started with laptops and then smartphones.  Before that most were fine with alkaline dry cells or NiCad rechargeables.

^ Tesla always pushes back the cheap versions of its new model refreshes. In fact they push them back so far it usually becomes never. That way they can advertise a low price which nobody ever pays.

My understanding is the lower price model is just to qualify for the rebates, if your lowest priced vehicle is under the rebate limit all your cars qualify.

That is only for the Model 3. The Model S has no rebates but from a business standpoint if demand is outstripping supply why would you sell the base 122k Model S when you can sell the 170k Model S Plaid which costs them only 5k more to produce, if that but they sell it for 48k more? Once demand for the Plaid dries up start building the base Model S. Seems like elementary school business concept.

Here is a very good video that outlines how Tesla just moves so much faster than other manufacturers.  Other manufacturers might take 2-8 years to make a change.  Tesla can do it in three hours.

And the additional savings/profit can be realized on the cars that leave the factory today, rather than those that leave 2 years from now.

In this interview with Joe Justice, who operated agile at Tesla during 2020, he reveals secrets about how Elon Musk's company works using agile methodologies in a radical way.

Joe Justice book, Scrum Master: https://amzn.to/307TrEv Joe Justice is currently president of the Agile Institute and CEO of the wikispeed team that in 2010 went head-to-head with Tesla in an event called the “Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize” and surprisingly wikispeed beat Tesla. Wikispeed still has four world records that have yet to be broken.

Joe Justice, a former employee with Tesla who operated the agile processes at Tesla shares eye opening insights into Tesla.

Agile processes are simply a way for a company to move faster with their features and products using a process known as agile - meaning agility, which lets you make decisions and make more products faster and faster with high quality.

Joe decided to work at Tesla due to the speed of innovation at the company. Joe judges companies based on their speed of innovation. Joe saw Tesla change up their products in Software and Hardware rapidly and decided to go work at Tesla to test his own skills with agile processes.

Joe was asked to compare Tesla with Amazon and Microsoft. Joe said that he never had as much fun as he did at Tesla. He said it is because Tesla moves so fast. He feels every company moves so slow compared to Tesla.

If you were to work at Tesla and your values weren't aligned with Tesla's, you would burn out. But if your values are aligned, you would have a great experience. But it is incredibly intense work.

The first day you arrive at Tesla, you get a 4 hour on-boarding experience and you are given an employee handbook not handbook. You are basically empowered to do anything and can talk to Elon Musk at any time. You can work across any department. You are fully empowered. If anyone stops you from doing something that is right, that other person will be fired. This is no matter what position you are in - from floor sweeper to developer.

It’s helpful that many (most?) Tesla longer-term employees are also millionaires. That would be a fun place to work.

Here is the Tesla anti handbook handbook:

Pretty quick read, only about 30 paragraphs.

Yep, does a great job on the highway. Notice that he has to correct the driving as soon as he gets on to City streets.

I was hoping the cop at the start would nab it for speeding.

Also... anything wrong with this picture?

Lol, the dang thing is speeding! And it passed a cop with multiple pulled over vehicles 30km/h faster than legally allowed, and in the wrong lane.

The guy driving is also clueless, and should know better.

It’s a US car.

FSD is not activated in Canada for anyone.

That being said, maybe there’s no cop there, it looks like three vehicles pulled off to the side due to a mechanical issue of a three car fender bender. Impossible to say but for God’s sake, pull over and slow down.
