$70k, so about a $25k premium over a lower tier F150 with 4x4, decent options and a crew cab chassis.

Chrysler was once a boom automaker with stylish, iconic cars. Now, things aren't the same. The brand only has three vehicles for sale and two of them are the Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The other, the 300, hasn't changed in roughly 11 years. Under FCA, Chrysler was floundering, flailing and riding on the coattails of the Pacifica. With Stellantis now at the reigns, Chrysler is going to change. During this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Chrysler stated it will stop making gas-powered vehicles by 2028.

The epic fight over who controls the future of the auto industry is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

Tesla Inc, the pioneer and pacesetter, has dominated the early rounds of the new-energy age, capturing investors’ imaginations with a vision for what the next generation of vehicles looks like and seizing the nascent market for fully electric vehicles (EVs).

In the other corner are giants of scale: Volkswagen AG (VW) and Toyota Motor Corp. The world’s two biggest automakers — each sold about 10 or 11 vehicles for every one Tesla did last year — realize the age of the battery-powered vehicle is here and are gaming out how to stay on top.

Within five days of one another last month, these masters of mass production laid out plans to splurge US$170 billion over the coming years to preserve their claim on an industry they have dominated for decades.

After a year of standout growth during which Tesla became far and away the most valuable automaker ever, the trillion-dollar question is whether Tesla chief executive Elon Musk’s advantages heading into the next generation of automaking are as insurmountable as his company’s market capitalization suggests.

“When the two biggest car companies in the world decide to go all-in on electric, then there’s no longer a question of speculation — the mainstream is going electric,” said Andy Palmer, the former chief of Aston Martin and ex-Nissan Motor Co executive often referred to as “the godfather of EVs” after being instrumental in developing the Japanese automaker’s battery-powered Leaf. “I expect the shift to electric to be faster than everyone expects.”

About long long before one has to replace a battery in Tesla cars and what is the cost?

When Germany-based Hansjörg Gemmingen purchased his Tesla Model S P85 in 2014, the world was a far different place. Back then, the idea of an all-electric car hitting 1 million kilometers, or better yet, 1 million miles, is something widely considered farfetched. This farfetched scenario is fast becoming a reality today.

As noted by Gemmingen in a recent post on Twitter, his Tesla Model S P85 has now reached a record 1,500,000 kilometers (932,256 miles) in its odometer. That’s far above the 1-million kilometer mark and another step closer to the famed 1 million mile milestone. A million miles is 1,609,344 kilometers, and considering that Gemmingen had added 500,000 kilometers to his Model S’ odometer in just over two years, it would not be surprising if the now-legendary all-electric road warrior ends up hitting the million-mile mark sometime this year.

The guy drives his Tesla 685 kilometres daily, 365 days a year?

Victoria to Port Hardy is 500km. But he drives nearly 40% more every single day?

You Tesla fanboys are so bendy with the truth. So it’s not “his” Tesla, it’s a commercial vehicle. Nowhere in the article does it state that.

New flash! You can reach a million miles in any vehicle, just keep replacing the motor and drivetrain over and over!

In reality his vehicle reached 470,000km.

Over the course of its tenure, the legacy Model S had required a battery change at 470,000 km. Three electric motors were worn out on the way to 1 million kilometers as well.

Electric vehicle sales in China skyrocketed 154% last year, despite a global slowdown in auto sales owing to the crunch in semiconductor supplies, as more consumers opt for greener cars. According to industry analyst ZoZo Go, electric vehicle (EV) makers sold a total of 3.3 million units in China in 2021, up from 1.3 million in 2020, and 1.2 million in 2019.

According to Seeking Alpha, EV sales worldwide increased 69% in the first 11 months of the year, with China outpacing global growth.

Part of the growth in China is thanks to regulations. I remember being in Shanghai a few years ago, and all the scooters and motorcycles are electric. Also electric cars had a special green licence plate, which meant lower or no road taxes.

Don't be so sure.

Presumably regulations will certainly play a big part in driving this.

California for example requires all new cars and light trucks to be electric starting 2030.

BC:   The Province of British Columbia passed the Zero-Emission Vehicles Act (ZEV Act) on May 30, 2019. The ZEV Act requires automakers to meet an escalating annual percentage of new light-duty ZEV sales and leases, reaching: 10% of light-duty vehicle sales by 2025, 30% by 2030 and 100% by 2040.

Tesla has received a special approval from the Brandenburg State Environment department to build 2,000 Model Y bodies at Gigafactory berlin ahead of the much-coveted final approval.

https://electrek.co/...final-approval/

Over the last year, Tesla has run into a lot of red tape while trying to get approval to start production at Gigafactory Berlin, a giant new factory located near Berlin in Brandenburg.

The bottleneck right now is the environmental approval from the Brandenburg State Environment Ministry.

Tesla's Giga Austin May Begin Model Y Production In A Week Or So

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives says paperwork is now clearing for production to start in seven to 10 days.

And they are also very quiet, you don't hear them until they are 3 feet behind you and start honking their horn. I pushed one guy off his scooter after about the 15th encounter with these idiots. No driving test, no rules, no common sense.

Lots of people in Victoria with Model Y orders not happy as the delivery dates keep getting pushed back by months.

Texas factory will be producing Ys, Berlin factory will be producing Ys, China is already producing Ys and shipping them to Europe. The Y is going to be Tesla's best selling model by a long stretch when they get production of all the factories up and running.....

but I remember it was so poorly received when unveiled....everyone was disappointed. Stock dropped to 5% the following morning.

Rich Rebuilds Drives Impressive Tesla-Swapped Plymouth Muscle Car

The owner spent around 18 months converting the Plymouth Satellite into what he now calls the Electrollite.

https://insideevs.co...e-electric/amp/

The owner explains he went ahead and ripped out the V8 because he had modified ICE vehicles in the past and he wanted to be challenged, to learn something new. Now given the fact that the Satellite two-door is an appreciating classic, he says many people did not approve of the conversion and he was told that he removed the car’s soul along with its engine and that he ruined it in the process.

But is that really so? Well, original it may not be any more, but it is ridiculously quick, interesting and unique, especially for us EV aficionados. The conversion seems very well done - the vehicle even has custom pushrod suspension.

The District of Saanich has unveiled it will be opening 20 new level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the region to make it easier for residents to charge up.

The District says that Natural Resources Canada, through its Zero Emissions Vehicle Incentive Program (ZEVIP), provided a $100,000 investment for the deployment and installation of the new charging stations.

_______________

The new charging stations will be located at eight municipal sites, including four new locations at Saanich parks:

Saanich Commonwealth Place – 6 new stations (plus 2 existing stations)
G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre – 2 new stations (plus 2 existing stations)
Cedar Hill Recreation Centre – 2 new stations (plus 2 existing stations)
Cedar Hill Golf Course – 2 new stations (plus 2 existing stations)
Gyro-Cadboro Park – 2 new stations
Mount Douglas Park – 2 new stations
Hampton Park – 2 new stations
Beckwith Park – 2 new stations
