Rivian
Shares of Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) fell 8.5% on Tuesday, deepening the electric vehicle (EV) maker's descent from its post-IPO highs.
Rivian's stock price is now down nearly 60% from the highs above $179 that it reached shortly after its initial public offering in November. The stock has violently reversed course in recent months, as the initial excitement about Rivian's IPO has worn off.

They have still only made 1,000 trucks.
Tesla at one plant (China):
The rate of production is unheard of in the EV world, as 70,847 units in a month would be theoretically roughly 850,000 cars per year. Only time will tell whether the manufacturer will be able to maintain such a volume.
No other plant produces so many electric cars, which would require a rate faster than 38 seconds per car (24/7). In December, we saw videos that were indicating that such a rate is possible.

Saw my first electric pickup today, not sure what brand. They gotta work on the front end of these things, they just look odd. They make it look like it has a grille but then they fill it. Why don't they make the front end just flat and smooth.

The safety report data claimed that for the fourth quarter of 2021, the EV tech giant only recorded a single crash for every 4.31 million miles that its vehicles drove, wherein the Autopilot feature is enabled.- https://apple.news/A...uRJ-wh5AER2MU6Q
That’s quite the thing. Running a red, smashing into another car, killing people. And you guys thought these things would be commonplace and driverless by now.
Tesla being misleading about something? No. Impossible.
On the other hand, those who were not using Autopilot functionalities or the autosteer and "active safety" features, figured in a single accident for every 1.59 million miles that the car has been driven.
The Tesla report for the latter part of last year further compared its current data with the figures provided by the NHTSA.
The safety report for the Q1 2021 of Tesla said: "By comparison, NHTSA's most recent data shows that in the United States there is an automobile crash every 484,000 miles."

PARIS --The European Commission's strategy to phase out combustion engines in favor of EVs is a political choice that carries environmental and social risks, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said in an interview with European newspapers.
Since merging Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot-maker PSA Group, Tavares has mapped out a 30 billion euro ($34 billion) electrification plan that helped Stellantis shares surge more than 60 percent in their first year.
"What is clear is that electrification is a technology chosen by politicians, not by industry," he said in a joint interview with France's Les Echos, Handelsblatt, Corriere della Sera and El Mundo.
And a well balanced video just released

Most of us assume electric cars are better for the environment than petrol or diesel, but new figure published by Volvo seem too suggest electric vehicles may not be as green as their internal combustion engine counterparts in the short term.

Better but I don't want a designery truck. I want something like this with a little modernization but nothing where a headlight going out means a $3000 repair... Some nicer wheels and a fancier bumper. $30k CAN please.

Are we any closer to saving the planet yet?
yep...just a tiny.tiny. bit though.....maybe you could pitch in! ;-)

surely you weren't waiting for industry to step up and take action on their own - when has that ever happened?

How bizarre is that question? Is it specific to electrification or industry in general?

Stuff like this takes on a life of its own after a while and you either hop on the bus or you don't.
I have a cousin who was a gardener back in 1998 but who had taken Pascal when he was in university. When people started getting worked up about Y2K he, like almost everyone else in the industry, said it wasn't a big deal and that it was being blown out of proportion. After a while though he finally said screw it and hopped on the bus and made $150 / hr, 40 hours a week, working for the Government on contract, for 18 months until he went back to gardening.
Same thing now, nobody wants to hear that EV aren't actually that great for the environment. You decide to hop on the bus or not.

EVs are better for emissions and arguably a better vehicle platform. I don't believe they are better for the environment from a holistic perspective. Especially when the mandates force infrastructure change that doesn't take into account the environmental cost of that....

Ooooh a mine. So? Is that more destructive than a natural volcano or storm or glacier?
Just showing that it's not fee energy. My point is to compare apples to apple when looking at the true environmental impact compared to gas vehicles or more importantly the oil infrastructure. IMO it isn't.

For instance.... Here is an oil sands mine.

To me what would be better for the environment would be people NOT buying new cars and the infrastructure NOT being totally rebuilt on mass. You know. Reuse, reduce....

^ it’s not economically viable to recycle or reuse some things though.
