Is butane available in sizeable quantities? Not sure I know if its use outside lighters. And that’s because it can be relatively lightly pressurized to make it a liquid. Compared to say propane.

I’ve only seen it in 1L quantities at its biggest consumer size.

The gas station needs electrical power to pump out the liquid fuel though.

The good thing is, there are many gas stations, most of which will have electricity. But you’ve only got one house, and it might not have electricity for a very long time.

That’s why when I build the house, I build with studs at 8 inch centres. So every second stud can be used for firewood.

Don’t you want the studs hauling, cutting and stacking firewood?

Gotta get gas or diesel generators, for sure. Propane and butane are too limited in their distribution.

He’s been using propane for the grill and butane for a camp stove, I assume. He’s from Tofino, he knows the power out drill.

I’m buying dips and selling when it pops, but I do think once the semi is out the commercial industry will go for it.

Hertz and the other rental car agencies are showing that the commercial market is willing to take on EVs. And right now the trucking industry is being slammed by high fuel costs. So the question is, can charging capacity at truck stops supply energy fast enough for a full recharge as a driver sleeps?

I do not understand why TODAY, we don't have truck trains.  With a driver in the front truck and two or three units automated and following.  For highways only.

The "units following" could just home in on this code and their sole job is to keep themselves a certain distance back from the truck they are following.  Increasing the distance as they move faster.

Convoys are forbidden because they’re unsafe. If you have a few truck trains in a row it would be an issue. Maybe that can get figured out some how but it will require new regulations.

Loblaws partners with self-driving company Gatik in Canadian first: driverless grocery trucks

https://www.cbc.ca/n...omous-1.6606623

There is no human sitting in the driver's seat of a half-dozen trucks adorned with PC Express branding, currently making their way around various Ontario roadways.

It's the latest step in a pilot program launched in 2020 in which trucks operated by Palo Alto, Calif.,-based Gatik ferried various items between Loblaws distribution hubs and a half-dozen retail locations across the Greater Toronto Area.

__________

Although the trucks drive themselves, at first, a safety driver sat behind the wheel. More than 150,000 such trips were quietly done during the pandemic, and after completing all of them without a single safety incident, the two parties decided to take the next step: They sought and received permission from the province to go driverless, though they plan to have the safety driver sit in the passenger seat for now.

It appears as though Tesla fans in New Zealand couldn’t wait for the electric SUV to launch in the country. In the first full month the Model Y was available, it became New Zealand’s best selling vehicle, including when compared to cars and trucks with internal combustion engines (ICE).

According to sales data from New Zealand, a total of 1,520 Model Ys were registered in the country in September. The first Model Y was delivered in New Zealand in mid-August.

That was enough to put the electric SUV ahead of the second most popular vehicle, the Ford Ranger truck which accumulated 1,043 registrations during the same time period.  In third place was another pickup truck, the Toyota Hilux (989).

Trucks on literal trains are very common here in Switzerland. I guess it’s a great way to haul them through the mountains? Whole trucks, tractor and trailer, driven on to flatbeds and moved around at high speed. Never seen that anywhere else in Europe, but I don’t get out much.

This is what LMC Automotive thought 2025 will look like - as predicted back in 2019:

https://twitter.com/MartinViecha

screenshot-twitter.com-2022.10.08-09_53_31.png

Three years ago, they thought Tesla might hit 375,000 cars per year - by 2025.

In reality, Tesla will manufacture ~2,000,000 cars this year, perhaps 3,000,000 next year.  Almost certainly well over 4,000,000 in 2025.  So they are only off by 10x.  And they are strictly in the business of car manufacturing forecasting.

In fact, other than knowing that it’s built on Foxconn’s own open-source MiH (short for Mobility in Harmony) electric car platform (which the company believes will allow it to be “the Android of electric vehicles”) details are sparse. More will probably be shared in just over a week’s time when the official reveal is planned. What we now know for a fact is that the plan is to begin manufacturing this vehicle in 2024 the Ohio factory it purchased from Lordstown GM.

The plant is designed for a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year, and just like it has done in the electronics manufacturing segment, Foxconn plans to offer its manufacturing services to third parties that don’t have their own facilities and are looking to outsource. The Foxtron Model B won’t just be built in the United States, though, as it will also roll off a production line in China one year ahead of the US, in 2023.
