Plug-in hybrids make the most sense right now.

Sales are falling for them.  Worldwide.

USA:

In recent months, registrations of plug-in hybrid vehicles have fallen. According to figures from New AutoMotives Electric Car Count, overall sales of new cars in May 2022 fell by over 20% compared to May 2021, while new registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased by just under 20%.

Europe:

Plug-in hybrid sales fall as demand rises for full EVs

Plug-in hybrid cars are being left behind by EVs as subsidies are withdrawn and automakers concentrate on full-electric models.

Volkswagen Trinity flagship electric vehicle delayed to 2028

An internal review over a planned German factory has put the brakes on the launch of Volkswagen's next-generation “premium” electric vehicle.

https://www.drive.co...elayed-to-2028/

An internal review of Volkswagen’s plans to construct a $200 million ($A310 million) factory at its Wolfsburg base in Germany has led to a delay in the introduction of the company's planned flagship electric vehicle: Project Trinity, as it is known.

Announced last year, Project Trinity was initially scheduled for a 2026 launch, and claimed to travel further, charge faster (as quickly as refuelling) and offer more advanced autonomous driving technology than any Volkswagen before it.

Construction of the factory – conceived around new production processes aimed at providing significant increases in efficiency over Volkswagen’s existing plants – was set to begin in the European spring of 2023 (our autumn), having been approved by Volkswagen board members earlier this year, with a view towards a start to production in 2026.

_____________

Former Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess claimed the production model being developed under the title of Project Trinity had been conceived around a modular production process that would allow it to be produced in 10 hours.

We recently reported that Tesla may begin large-scale production of the Cybertruck toward the end of 2023, though we had the impression that perhaps the massive electric pickup truck would arrive at least slightly sooner. Tesla is already tooling the factory for the Cybertruck, and now it's hiring for several new job positions specific to the electric truck.

Not so long ago, it still seemed like the Tesla Cybertruck would never make it to market. Tesla pushed it back multiple times, it just seemed too huge and ridiculous to really make its way onto public roads, and there still hasn't been an official unveiling of the final product with pricing.

That said, Tesla's recent Q3 2022 update showed that the Cybertruck is already in the tooling phase at Giga Texas. There have also been a few Cybertrucks on-site at the new factory, though onlookers and drone photographers admit that they may just be bodies.

The Tesla Semi delivery event on December 1 is closing in. And while tickets to the event are limited, Tesla has recently sent out a second batch of invites for retail investors. This should provide another chance for Tesla enthusiasts who wish to attend the Class 8 all-electric truck’s first deliveries at Gigafactory Nevada.

The Tesla Semi has been a long time coming. Initially unveiled in late 2017, it took Tesla nearly five years to bring the vehicle to production. Considering the potential of the vehicle, however, even such a delay may not matter much in the long run since the Semi would be competing in the long-haul transportation sector, which is still saturated with traditional diesel trucks.

The Tesla Semi’s first deliveries are drawing closer, and CEO Elon Musk is wasting no time on Twitter promoting the electric vehicle maker’s upcoming Class 8 all-electric truck. Based on Musk’s recent posts, it appears that the Semi is definitely ready to work for its customers, as the Tesla team recently completed a 500-mile journey with the vehicle weighing in at 81,000 pounds.

“Tesla team just completed a 500-mile drive with a Tesla Semi weighing in at 81,000 lbs!” Musk wrote this weekend.

____________________________

Following the Semi’s unveiling, for example, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck AG Martin Daum infamously commented that Tesla’s Class 8 truck and its target specs violate the laws of physics

“If Tesla really delivers on this promise, we’ll obviously buy two trucks — one to take apart and one to test because if that happens, something has passed us by. But for now, the same laws of physics apply in Germany and in California,” Daum said

Elon Musk acknowledged these reservations during the Q3 2022 earnings call when he and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Zachary Kirkhorn made it a point to highlight that the Tesla Semi’s 500-mile range pertains to the truck when it’s loaded with cargo. Musk also noted that he expects Tesla to aim for a production rate of 50,000 units annually in 2024 for North America. If Tesla is successful, it will make the EV maker one of the largest Class 8 truck makers in the United States.

Tesla Semi, weighing 81,000 lbs, drove 500 miles, showing impressive performance. CEO Elon Musk shared the results of internal testing confirming the characteristics declared for the truck.

In just a few days, on December 1, the first Tesla Semis will be delivered. Pepsi Co. will be the first customer in the world to receive the class 8 electric trucks, and with them, the opportunity to run their operations more economically and cleaner for the environment. These will be versions with a range of 500 miles, as previously announced by Elon Musk. According to the specifications, this version of the truck will be able to drive 500 miles fully loaded, which equates to about 82,000 lbs.

New Novabus charge range increases to 150km from 40km.

TransLink currently operates two charging stations located at the 22nd Street Station bus exchange and the Marple Loop. One is manufactured by ABB and the other by Siemens. These on-route overhead fast-charge stations ensure the buses can continuously recharge and operate throughout the day.

This poor guy says his broken screen on his F150 Lightning means he can’t turn off air conditioning in the winter: https://youtube.com/...k?feature=share

That screen thing in lieu of having physical buttons for controlling things never made much sense to me. But now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to emulate it.

According to new plans uncovered by Supercharger sleuth Marco (@MarcoRPTesla), Tesla will soon begin construction of a massive 88 stall Supercharger in the small town of Quartzsite, Arizona.

There are larger Supercharger stations in California, but those have expanded to their current size through additional phases of construction. Since all 88 stalls in Quartzsite will be built at the same time, this will be Tesla’s largest single build ever in the US.

Vietnamese automaker VinFast reported last week that it had shipped its first batch of VF 8 electric SUVs for the U.S., with the first deliveries due before the end of the calendar year.

The shipment of 999 EVs departed Hai Phong, Vietnam, Nov. 25 for what is scheduled to be a 20-day voyage to California, where they'll be offloaded and sent to customers, according to a company press release. Following delivery of the first batch of U.S.-market cars, VinFast plans to start deliveries of the VF 8 in Canada in Europe in early 2023.

ARK’s evolving electric vehicle (EV) sales forecast is pointing the way to an all-electric auto industry in the next 5 years. Their conclusion stems from the argument that all new vehicle sales will be electric if prices drop to ~$14,500 on average. Moreover, their analysts say that, while production capacity may not hit 80 million units, EVs still could account for ~90% share of the market by 2027.

Consumers probably will conclude that buying a used car or waiting to buy a new EV will make more economic sense than buying a new ICE vehicle by 2027. As a result, ARK’s research suggests that new vehicle sales globally will drop as internal combustion engine vehicle sales collapse from ~70 million units this year to roughly 10 million units.

General Motors' electric vehicles allegedly still have a long way to go until they make the company any money. A presentation for GM's investor day Thursday reportedly leaked early and will detail the uphill battle the Detroit automaker is facing in terms of profitability for its ambitious line of EVs. As first reported by Bloomberg, the company's CEO Mary Barra will tell investors Thursday its EVs won't be profitable until 2025.

By that date, the company aims to sell 1 million EVs a year. Until then, it's set to sell around 44,000 in 2022—reportedly at a loss. Its ICE business is expected to keep funding the losses and other technological developments in the meantime. Even once the electric vehicles break even, Barra reportedly notes that EVs won't be as profitable as gas-powered cars.
