That’s how we know we’re dealing with fans, not sincere responses from average people.

There is no example where an EV is more affordable. Not one. And the “noise” is also not a factor in a modern vehicle, unless you want it to be. What they’re saying here, is because they bought a $90k car instead of a $50k car, is it’s better insulated from tire noise. That’s all you hear from the vehicle in a modern unmodified passenger car without a muffler tuned to make noise.

Not sure average people have driven an EV very much.

I thought Marko gave some insight on EV ownership including the tire argument from the standpoint of a long time owner?

How modern does a car have to be to not hear the engine noise?

I own a PHEV because long trips in an EV are still a fantasy...

But I remember the stat (intuitively makes sense to me) that the average trip is 25 kloms in Canada and the trips over 200 kloms are very low. Also, isn't a Prius, or Nissan Leaf about $30 - $35,000?

Obviously electric cars are much quieter to drive than gas. Drive a hybrid and see if it’s just “tire noise” when it switches from electric to gas.

I’ve been in a bazillion taxis that switch from gas to hybrid. You can’t hear the difference, at all.

95% of people have a radio going anyways.

Maybe it doesn't happen if you can't hear it.

I drive an EV from time to time and I can certainly tell the difference in sound...  Odd argument...

Here is how you spool up a Tesla factory:

Maybe time to get the ol ears checked.

Sorry guys, it’s all in your heads.

Look up sound comparisons on YouTube. The noise can even be higher for EVs because they’re so much heavier, and the large rims on a Tesla amplify noise.

Interior vehicle noise levels have more to do with insulation, than noise made or not made by the vehicle.

The concept's range of 200 miles is also likely to get upgraded, although it's still decent for a city car, especially one that charges at up to 350kW – assuming the production model retains that capability from the concept.

It loses me a bit at the rear view.  But the first image is nice.

The technology to make these glass roofs must be quite something.

(UK) Who needs a car salesman? Tesla launches 'Remote Test Drives' that let customers try its electric vehicles without stepping foot in a showroom

You book a Tesla remote test drive online, completing all the necessary paperwork. You call a phone number when you reach the car, and the Tesla’s cameras are used to verify your identity.   A Tesla rep then unlocks the car.

SUVs are more popular than ever, but do drivers need all that extra space?

EV Battery Life Exceeds Expectations in Study of 15,000 Electric Cars

Recurrent, the car industry's leading analyst of electric vehicle (EV) range and batteries, today reveals new data showing that only 1.5% of EV batteries have been replaced in its community of 15,000 owners. The data is a testament to EV durability that helps to dismantle consumer fears about maintenance cost and resale value.

Battery replacements for popular EV models can cost from $5,000 to $20,000 based on numerous factors. If a vehicle is within its manufacturer warranty – typically eight years and 100,000 miles – a battery can be replaced at no extra cost to the owner as long as minimum range or state of health thresholds are reached. That makes EV range and battery transparency essential for people who are buying or selling a used EV.

https://www.globenew...f 15,000 owners.

"Used EV shoppers worry that the car battery will degrade quickly like a mobile phone battery, and not be able to hold a charge within a few years," said Liz Najman, lead researcher at Recurrent. "That is not a good comparison because EV packs are complex technology with battery management systems that carefully regulate things like charging and temperature. This research shows that batteries are holding up better than expected and replacements are not an automatic surprise expense for owners at 101,000 miles."

A Hybrid is not an EV, it’s not as heavy.

The data is pretty solid on the noise emissions. At normal driving speeds there is no difference, if slightly worse for the EV due to its weight.

I think at highway speeds the sounds is negligible between all of them, but in the City gas motors are certainly more noticeable.

EVs Run in Near Silence, So Cabin Noise Faces More Scrutiny (autoweek.com)

Without an internal-combustion engine creating a four-stroke soundtrack of spinning belts, pistons pumping, exhaust tones, and (often) forced induction, there isn’t much of an auditory experience for vehicle occupants. In the age of EVs, it boils down to wind noise, road noise, and whatever tunes are playing on the stereo.

This new dynamic is bound to make drivers and passengers much more aware of every sound in the cockpit, which is sure to be reflected in customer satisfaction surveys. Every buzz, squeak, and rattle is much more noticeable as noise, vibration, and harshness.

At highway speeds it's even more pronounced.

There's a car dealer in the UK that put together a Youtube video with a nice big list of gas/diesel vs EVs in terms of decibels emitted as they drive at 10, 20 and 30mph, because of the line of thinking that EVs are too quiet, and therefore dangerously so. He argues they're not quiet at all, that they're just as loud, if not louder than gas vehicles.

The loudest cars on his list are Teslas, outpacing a Ford Ranger diesel pick-up in every category. Inside though it's a different matter, and has everything to do with insulation.
