Tesla Inc. plans to give an early glimpse of its revamped Model 3 sedan as part of Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk’s first visit to the carmaker’s Shanghai factory in years, according to people familiar with the matter.

The first cars coming off the line Thursday are prototypes, the people said, asking not to be identified because the company’s plans are private. The updated Model 3, Tesla’s first mass-market sedan, is slightly longer and sportier than the earlier version and has a sleeker interior design, Bloomberg reported earlier this month.

The Volvo EX30 EV will make its global debut on June 7, when it will become available to order or pre-order in selected markets. The small crossover will also be offered through a monthly subscription program which is said to appeal to young Gen Z buyers that were born between the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Yahoo reporting Tesla registrations in Canada fell 30% in the first quarter of the year, to 2021 numbers. Overall alternative fuel vehicle registration data shows the split has fallen from 10.1% to 9.1% in the first quarter.

Maybe more incentives are needed for people buying $100,000 sedans?

I was reading the new Hyundai/Kias have an 800w charging system.

If a car subscription sounds expensive, it is. In the past five years, no fewer than 10 automakers started and quietly shut down their subscriptions. Several startups came and went. The math didn’t add up for most car-shoppers. Starting a subscription, some of which crested more than $1,000 per month, became cost-prohibitive in a matter of weeks when compared to leasing. The automakers (Ford, Lincoln, Lexus, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi) couldn’t grow them beyond a few select cities due to lack of customer demand and the limited capacity of their vendors that were managing the vehicle fleets and the services. Car buyers have chosen to finance and lease, just like always.

That doesn’t mean subscriptions are totally dead. Only Porsche and Volvo continue to offer factory subscriptions. Porsche has the allure of coveted and highly valuable sports cars, while Volvo keeps prices and terms comparable to its leases. A few startups and major rental companies are still in the business with competitive terms.

The gym membership really inspired others. I just canceled two “subscriptions” that renewed themselves despite me not using them for a year. The own nothing be happy model sucks. Balance is needed….

I actually like the MS Office subscription, or whatever it’s called now.

Is there a choice? There are pluses to the model. Most of my software is subscription based.

I like how that new Polestar has no rear window.  Kind of redundant anyway.

Cybertruck appears back on track as Tesla hires employees to build long-delayed pickup in Texas

Nearly two years later than originally planned, Tesla appears to be on track to begin producing its Cybertruck this summer at Gigafactory Texas. The electric-vehicle maker is seeking employees to build its often-delayed pickup at the manufacturing plant near Austin.

Among nearly 80 current job postings for Cybertruck production, the company is seeking to hire supervisors, technicians and engineers. The postings include a position for a senior technical program manager to “oversee the complete manufacturing validation for the program” and “scale mass production.”

https://www.expressn...ed-18126599.php

When Musk unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019, Tesla said the starting price would sell for less than $40,000. Now, the Cybertruck is expected to hit the market at $50,000, according to Kelly Blue Book, which expects the vehicle to compete against the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV in the emerging electric-vehicle market.

On Tuesday, the company was offering “fully refundable” $100 reservations on its website for the Cybertruck without posting a price for the vehicle.

Tesla’s recent job postings for Gigafactory Texas come after the company quietly tripled its workforce last year.

The company reported a staff count of 12,277 in the Austin area at the end of 2022, up from 3,523 contingent and permanent employees in 2021. It said just more than half of its workers reside in Travis County and that the average full-time employee was paid at least $47,147 last year.

New data out of Norway shows plug-in electric vehicles have hit a staggering 91% share of new car sales for the month of May 2023.

Of the 13,342 new vehicles sold in Norway in May, 10 773 (80.7%) were fully electric BEV passenger vehicles, 703 (5.3%) were plug-in hybrids and another 725 (5.4%) were new zero-emission vans.

Another 399 (3%) were non-plug-in hybrids and just 435 (3.3%) cars fuelled only by petrol and diesel were sold.

Norway plans to completely ban the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars from 2025, including hybrids.

https://thedriven.io...1-market-share/

In a country where EVs have largely taken over the realm of passenger vehicles, one company continues to stand out, and that’s Tesla.

In May thus far, Tesla has already captured over 35 percent of the market share, leading Volkswagen by a margin of well over 20 percent. Volkswagen’s 430 EVs registered so far in May in Norway have it holding 12.9 percent.

I guess I will hangonto my dads old 1937 Mercedes touring car. The only real problem with the car is that it has an urge to invade Poland.
