America apparently needs more car seats. So, when Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Buzz, a retro-styled electric van, last year, it noted that the version for the North American market would be longer and would have three rows of seats.

North America’s version of the ID. Buzz has now officially been revealed. “Designed and tailor-made for the North American consumer,” in the words of Volkswagen of America chief executive Paolo Di Si, this version is near 10 inches longer than the two-row model. It’s still not huge, though. At 194.4 inches, front to back, it’s about 10 inches shorter than a Chrysler Pacifica minivan, but can still seat up to seven.

The two-row version and a commercial van version available in Europe will not be sold here, Di Si confirmed.

The ID. Buzz is designed to recall the Volkswagen T1, or Transporter. That iconic model was introduced in 1949 and is better known as the Microbus, or just the VW Bus. In America, it became associated with the Hippie movement, but the Bus also provided transportation for large families long before the front-wheel-drive minivan was invented by Chrysler in the 1980s.

I think that's quite a bit more ugly than the original concept:

You’re right. I would rather get a rebuild from GoWesty… I miss my van. 91 with a Tico conversion.

Saw this Arcimoto FUV (f for fun) in a hotel parking lot this evening, Oregon plates. Advertised as having a 102 mile city range so not ideal for long road trips...

Might not be great in inclement weather.

I guess I will hangonto my dads old 1937 Mercedes touring car. The only real problem with the car is that it has an urge to invade Poland.

Maybe remind the car that those plans didn’t work out so well.

Tesla stock (NASDAQ: TSLA) is continuing an epic run as it continues to climb on Monday. Over the past five days, the automaker’s shares have exploded and are up nearly 13 percent at the time of writing.

Tesla investors have enjoyed an over 100 percent surge in 2023 alone, nearly canceling out the fall that occurred last year.

The manganese battery?

Chinese battery company thinks it has found a way to make EV batteries cheaper and more powerful with the help of a new chemistry.

Developed by Gotion High Tech Co., lithium-iron-manganese-phosphate (LMFP) batteries could be the next step in making electric vehicles more appealing to the general public.

Indeed, the company believes this chemistry could provide EVs with a range of up to 1,000 kilometres per charge, something that is currently only possible with very expensive nickel-cobalt units.

There’s been battery tech news like clockwork for decades. If they all panned out, we’d be long since driving 10k on one charge of a $10 battery that fits in your pocket.
