I don't know. It's maybe at best and how many lives is unknown. But Car crashes is easy to observe. Hundred die in BC each year. So if its lives lost that dictate your policies, We need to ban cars outright.
Here is a study that confirms the maybe... https://www.canada.c...ality.html#a2.3
Not sure if I can quickly get the maybe how many deaths though.
Addressing the pollution isn't a bad thing tough. There is probably innovation that could go that direction vs mandating purchasing.
Instead they are looking at cow farts....

Probably. But does pollution from cars cause lives?

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sold today in Europe emit nearly four times less greenhouse gases over their lifetime than their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts, and they are getting cleaner faster than experts expected.
New research published this week by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) estimates that BEVs sold today in Europe produce 73 per cent less life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions than an equivalent gasoline-powered counterpart – even when factoring in production of the vehicle.
Specifically, medium segment passenger BEVs sold across the European Union in 2025 and charging based on the projected 2025–2044 average EU electricity mix were shown to have an estimated life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions value of 63 grams of CO2 equivalent per kilometre (g CO2e/km).
This was 73 per cent lower than the emissions of gasoline-powered vehicles running on the average blend of fossil gasoline and ethanol, which were shown to have an estimated life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions value of 235 g CO2e/km.

I’ve never dodged it.Do you think internal combustion engines don’t cost lives, Mike?
You dodge this almost every time I bring it up.
But I will remind you, that if our society is really concerned about saving lives, then we ought to ban alcohol consumption. And improve our food supply to rely on fewer GMOs and chemicals.

Well, we could ban personal vehicles altogether (car crases), walking (falls) and poisoning (prescription drug deaths).

Pretty sure we already ban poisoning, or at least, we require it to be slow. ![]()

1,200 people die annually from traffic-related air pollution In Canada. I am not dodging the issue, but you may find your concerns overblown, with such a low number. And emissions controls keep getting tighter.
Here’s the report from the feds: “This report estimates that TRAP was associated with over 1,200 premature deaths in Canada in 2015.”

Well, cardio vascular disease kills the most and lots of alcohol deaths are auto-related.
So let's ban cars and food.

You’re willing to overturn an entire society and a huge slice of the economy over 1,200 deaths, but you will dodge alcohol’s impacts on society, even though it is much more deadlier and destructive.
We have gone though this so many times before. I and you can avoid alcohol. A little tougher to dodge drunk drivers, but we can dodge alcohol or those that use it.
I can't avoid your car smog, unless you banish me to a rural area.

Anyone notice how we no longer hear about smog? It was a common deadline maker up until, I dunno, when the data started emerging.

If we ban children we should get of all the problems in a generation or so.
