I know huh! We spent $85 million dollars for a tiny bus parking lot and workshop. And it’s for a French company even.

The EV market in BC was in free fall in 2025, as hybrids took over.

That is the way.

New vehicle registration data – referring to the first time a vehicle is registered in B.C. – shows changing patterns in vehicle choices with gas-powered vehicle registrations remaining below levels seen before 2020. Hybrid vehicles are growing steadily and now exceed electric vehicle registrations each year. While electric vehicle adoption rose quickly in recent years, that growth has slowed.

The newly built Model Y 4680 battery packs are seeing an impressive and positive (pun intended) charging speed.

According to Twitter user The Kilowatts, they were able to charge their new Model Y from 0% to 97% in just 52 minutes.

The Kilowatts’s Ryan Levenson took delivery of an Austin, Texas-made dual-motor Model Y, which is built with Tesla’s highly anticipated 4680 battery pack.

Levenson rents out electric vehicles he owns on Turo and maintains them. Levenson shared on Twitter that he drove the new Model Y three miles past its 0% state of charge. He noted that there was no effect on the vehicle’s acceleration.

“0% -> 97% in 52 minutes for our MIT (made in Texas) Dual Motor Model Y,” Levenson writes on Twitter.

“Plugged in at 12:25 am with 0 miles of range remaining (actually drove 3 miles beyond 0 with seemingly no impact on acceleration). Unplugged at 1:17 am with 270 miles of range.”

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that his company’s new dry cathode production method will “significantly reduce” battery costs.

The American electric vehicle (EV) giant revealed earlier this year that it had begun producing its 4680 battery cells using anodes and cathodes that were both made using a dry electrode process.

The revelation came five years after the company first mooted a dry-electrode concept during its Battery Day presentation in 2020, pitched as a method to simplify production and lower costs.

Electric Car Sales in Canada TAKE OFF - up OVER 80%!!!

Canada’s EV Rebates Sent March Sales Up Over 80%, Dealers Are Still Owed Millions

Sales of new EVs have surged 80 percent since the re-introduction of Canada's EV incentive program

https://www.carscoop...-reimbursement/

Almost 25,000 Canadian EV rebates doled out in April

Digging into the Excel spreadsheet of data, we find 5,139 rebates were claimed in Ontario; 12,181 in Quebec; and 4,711 in BC. Combined, those three provinces accounted for over 90% of claims. In terms of brands, Hyundai clocked 2,424 units, Kia had 2,858, and Toyota garnered some 7,215. Tesla showed up just 270 times. About 60 people fronted for a Dodge Charger Daytona, while someone in the Yukon thought buying a Nissan Leaf would be a good idea.

And if you’re wondering what’s up with EVs from China, know that the EVAP program does not apply to cars shipped from the People’s Republic. Preliminary data from that endeavour suggests that some 2,910 EVs made their way from China to Canada in the month of May. Barring a handful of outlier Lotus or other specialty brands, the vast majority of those are surely Tesla vehicles. This means about 12% of the initial six-month 24,500-car quota has been consumed.

What are the rebate criteria such that Tesla rebates are so low yet purchases of that brand soared? Is there made-in Canada guidelines?

Tesla does not get the rebates but the Chinese-made Teslas are nearly half the retail price of the previous USA-made same model.

Starting now, Tesla is offering its popular Model 3 at a fire-sale price of $39,490 plus fees, so for a total of just about $42,090, reports DriveTeslaCanada. This is many thousands less than before; it in fact borders on a nearly 50% reduction compared to the old pricing structure. However, this current crop of 3s does not qualify for the new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program because, despite its MSRP cutting the mustard, its assembly point of China bars it from getting the government largess.

Tesla is taking advantage of a change in Canada's policy on Chinese electric cars to sell the Model 3 at a considerably lower price in the country, and it might have an effect on the EV market as a whole, including for U.S. buyers.

Canadian customers can buy the Model 3 Premium RWD starting at $39,490 CAD, or about $29,000 USD.

Americans currently have to pay at least $36,990 USD for a basic version of the sedan that drops comforts like the backseat touchscreen, power-adjusted steering wheel, and FM radio. An equivalent to Canada's offering costs $42,490 USD, although it has a longer claimed range of 363 miles versus 287 miles.

The US consumer doesn’t do that conversation. What it means is they can sell the product in Canada for the same price as in the US.

Data from Morgan Stanley’s MS +3.82% ▲ Global EV Tracker shows electric vehicle sales reached 1,228,773 units in April of this year, up 16% from same month in 2025. Among U.S. automakers, Tesla led the way with 98,400 vehicles sold. The Tesla Model Y was the top-selling electric vehicle globally in April with 70,600 units sold.

Tesla controlled 8% of the worldwide electric vehicle market in April, up from 7.7% a year earlier. In the U.S. market, Tesla’s share stood at 45% in April, up from 40% the previous year. The latest report is good news for Tesla after its sales struggled over the past 18 months due to a backlash against CEO Elon Musk’s political activities.
